It is closed one day a week usually Wednesday and between 3-5 pm during weekdays.The menu is fabulous, with vegetarian takes on chinese meat dishes, lots of mouth watering mushroom dishes, tapa style plates, traditional mains. I actually booked a hotel, The A&R Urban Hotel the last time I was in Kl, to be near this delightful restaurant. It is that good! Nasi Kandar SB Maju Address: Jalan SM 4, Tamam Sunway Batu Caves, Batu Caves, Selangor · You must try the Roti Tissue & Roti Canai. Come before 11am they only serve the Rotis in the morning. This is a typical style Mamak shop with a typical breakfast, fast, tasty and inexpensive! Kedey Kamak Address: LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Center, Downstairs in the Food Court, Kuala Lumpur · You must try the Laksa Sarawak & the Sarawak 3 layer tea. This place has authentic and delicious Laksa Sarawak. Kedey Kamak is the real deal. They have three locations in KL but the Lalaport was always convenient, with awesome service, nice chairs and always delicious. You know what I love most about sunsets? They’re FREE! You don’t always need a rooftop bar, expensive restaurant, or difficult hike to enjoy an incredible sunset. One of my favourite spots is around Taman Saga, Ampang, where you can get an amazing view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Come around golden hour and watch the sky slowly change colour behind KL’s skyscrapers—it’s such a simple view, but somehow I never get tired of it. And here’s the very Malaysian bonus… there’s mamak nearby! So instead of paying for an expensive rooftop dinner, you can sit down with your teh tarik and roti, have dinner, and watch the city turn golden as the sun disappears behind the skyline. Honestly, sometimes the best travel moments cost almost nothing. For me, sunset hunting is one of the easiest ways to enjoy a destination. Same sun, completely different view everywhere you go. Unexpectedly impressed by Sphere Lounge at KLIA Domestic! 😍 I had some time before my next flight, so I decided to spend my transit at Sphere Lounge — and what a great decision! The lounge has such a comfortable and elegant atmosphere, with cozy seating, warm lighting and beautiful interior details. Since August is my birthday month, I found out about this and had to try it myself. Basically, Malaysian birthday celebrants are eligible for the birthday perk during their birthday month, but you need to redeem it within 30 days from your birthday. So don’t wait too long! For our starters, we chose the comforting creamy carrot soup and a fresh salad. For our mains, we went with a rich, savory beef pie and a delicious vegetarian pasta. Batu Caves seems to feature on almost every must-visit list for travelers heading to Kuala Lumpur. But beyond the vibrant, Instagram-worthy photos of the iconic rainbow stairs, does the actual experience live up to the hype? Here’s my personal take after visiting: ✅ The Pros · Convenient location: It’s relatively close to the KL city center, making it an easy, quick trip. · Easier than it looks: While the staircase looks intimidating at first glance, it’s not overly high or strenuous to climb. · Unique cultural experience: Home to the massive, golden statue of Lord Murugan and vibrant Hindu shrines, it offers a fascinating cultural shift from the city's modern skyline. ❌ The Cons · Transit hassle: There isn't a direct public transport connection (like a seamless bus or train link right to the spot), so you’ll likely need to rely on taxis or ride-hailing services. · Cleanliness issues: The area is teeming with wild monkeys and pigeons, which unfortunately leads to noticeable odor and droppings along the walkways. · Underwhelming interior: After trekking up hundreds of steps, the main attraction inside is essentially just a cavern housing a few small shrines - a bit of a letdown if you’re expecting something magnificent inside. · Limited food and rest spots: Options to eat or relax nearby are scarce, and the stalls around the courtyard charge premium prices for very basic choices. TRAVEL TIPS: 1. Dress appropriately: As it’s a sacred religious site, make sure your legs are covered below the knees (no short shorts or mini skirts). Bring your own water: Climbing the steps in the tropical heat will get you thirsty quickly, and the shops at the bottom charge marked-up prices. 3. Let’s be honest. Most people come to Malaysia thinking about nasi lemak, satay, and laksa. But our fruits deserve some attention too. 😆 👑 Durian The king of fruits. The smell scares some people away, but the fans are OBSESSED with it. Love it or hate it, you have to try it at least once in Malaysia. 💜 Mangosteen Sweet, juicy, refreshing, and ridiculously easy to eat. If durian is the king, mangosteen is definitely the queen. ❤️ Rambutan The hairy one. 😂 It might look strange at first, but it’s sweet, juicy, and surprisingly addictive. 💛 Cempedak Not as famous as durian, but honestly? Some locals love cempedak even more. Sweet, fragrant, and absolutely delicious when fried. 💚 Guava One of my personal favourites. Crunchy, refreshing, and even better with a little sour plum powder. One thing I love about travelling around Malaysia is stopping at random fruit stalls by the roadside. Just had an amazing family trip at the brand new KSL Esplanade Hotel in Klang and wow, it totally lived up to the hype! We booked their 2-Bedroom Suite for our group of four, and let me just say—this place is SO clean and everything still has that fresh-out-of-the-box vibe. Highly recommend if you love that new hotel sparkle! ✨ Room & Amenities This suite is a whole vibe. The best part? The master bathroom with an oversized bathtub that feels like your own private spa—sooo spacious and seriously luxe! The hotel hooked us up with generous toiletries, and those shower gel and shampoo scents? Obsessed! Major eco-friendly points for the huge refillable glass water bottles in every room. Soundproofing & Layout The soundproofing here is next-level. My kids were blasting their favorite shows in the next room, but our bedroom was total peace and quiet. The suite has 3 bathrooms (yes, THREE!)—there’s even a powder room in the living area, which is an absolute game changer for families. Bed & Sleep Quality Beds felt like sleeping on clouds—I’m talking seriously comfy, and we all slept like babies. Only thing I’d change? Toss in some extra pillows! Each bed comes with one, so if you’re a pillow fort type, maybe request a few more at check-in. Breakfast Breakfast was included in our rate (usually around RM 750/night, or RM 650 if you catch promos and collect Trip Coins on trip.com 🙌). While breakfast is about RM 45 per person, it’s a bit pricey if you don’t eat big. Tbh, with so many cafes and restaurants at the Esplanade shopping mall next door, it might be worth skipping and trying local eats instead! Parking & Accessibility Heads up: Parking is shared with the mall and can be a little tricky on your first try because the signs aren’t super clear. This can be a bit of a struggle if you’re hauling luggage or have little ones in tow. Also, during busy times the elevators take a minute to arrive, but they’re lightning fast once you get inside (hello, 21st floor in seconds!). I had seen photos of i-City Shah Alam before, but seeing it in person at night was a completely different experience. What surprised me most was how the atmosphere changed after sunset—the lights came on, the trees started glowing, and the whole place suddenly felt like a colourful night-time wonderland. My favorite part was walking around the famous City of Digital Lights. The illuminated trees and colorful displays created plenty of photo opportunities, and I found myself stopping every few minutes to take another picture. The lights looked especially beautiful against the evening sky. What I liked about i-City is that it isn't just about taking photos. There are also amusement rides, water attractions, entertainment options, restaurants and activities for families, so it's easy to spend several hours here. I visited in the evening and stayed until nightfall. Personally, I think this is the best way to experience i-City because you get to see the area transform from a normal leisure destination into a completely different world once the lights are switched on. 📍 My i-City Tips 🌆 Come before sunset – this gives you time to explore during daylight before experiencing the lights at night. 📸 Stay after dark – the illuminated trees and colourful displays are the main highlight and make excellent photo spots. 🎢 Plan your activities in advance – i-City has several attractions, so check which ones you want to visit before arriving. 👨👩👧👦 Great for families – there are attractions and entertainment options suitable for different ages. 👟 Wear comfortable shoes – you'll likely be doing quite a bit of walking. 🌙 Weekday evenings are generally more relaxing if you prefer fewer crowds. ❤️ My Experience What I enjoyed most about i-City wasn't one particular ride or attraction—it was the atmosphere. Walking through the illuminated streets with colourful lights everywhere made the evening feel almost magical. It was a simple experience, but one that felt completely different from an ordinary night out in Shah Alam. When people mention Kajang, the first thing that comes to mind is usually satay. I thought the same before visiting, but after spending a day exploring the town, I realized Kajang has so much more to offer than its famous skewers. From nostalgic streets and local cafés to delicious food and riverside views, it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable day trips near Kuala Lumpur. Of course, I couldn't leave without trying the legendary Kajang Satay. The smoky aroma from the charcoal grill instantly caught my attention, and the chicken satay was juicy, tender, and perfectly paired with rich peanut sauce. The waterfall is probably the main highlight and makes for a nice photo stop, while the lake adds to the relaxing atmosphere. That said, if you're expecting a major attraction, you might find it a little underwhelming. In my opinion, it's just a typical neighbourhood park with a pleasant setting rather than a must-visit destination. Sekinchan was one of those places that completely slowed me down. Just a couple of hours from Kuala Lumpur, I found myself surrounded by endless rice fields, fresh sea breeze, fishing villages, and some of the most peaceful scenery I've seen in Malaysia. I arrived early in the morning when the sunlight was shining across the paddy fields. Watching the wind ripple through the endless green fields was surprisingly calming. There wasn't much traffic, no crowded tourist attractions—just nature, fresh air, and a slower pace of life. One of my favorite experiences was visiting the Sekinchan Paddy Gallery and learning about how rice is grown before heading to the famous Wishing Tree at Pantai Redang. Standing by the beach, writing my wish, and throwing it onto the colorful wishing tree was such a fun local tradition. Later, I stopped by the fishing village to enjoy incredibly fresh seafood. The prawns, crabs, and steamed fish were some of the freshest I've had, and the prices were much more affordable than I expected. One of the recent roadtrip I had recently is taking this 90 minutes roadtrip from Kuala Lumpur to Sekinchan. Sekinchan ia located in Selangor, Malaysia, is a charming coastal town famous for its vibrant green paddy fields and fresh seafood and some of its attractions are the Wishing Tree and temple on Redang Beach, and rustic fishing villages to experience serene country life right in the middle of vast paddy fields, and from stunning photo spots to delicious local delicacies. Last Sunday was nice and hot, thus the lovely blue skies in the photos and I decided for a solo drive out just for some photo opportunities and enjoy some seafood before coming back to the city. I have always enjoyed roadtrips, be it a day trip or a month long trip. I always feel roadtrips allows you to take your own time, enjoy the ride rather than just the destinations, and it also gives me time to reflect on life, time to plan ahead and just to enjoy the calmness the countryside has to offer.
