It has been on my list for a long time, and I finally checked in!! Not every Sofitel hotel can be called "Legendary". The so-called legend is not only a word on paper, but also an experience, a tribute to history, and an embrace of the past. The site selection for the Sofitel Legend Hotel has extremely strict standards, requiring the main building to have a history of more than 50 years, which limits the cities that can be selected. The Legend series is known for its fusion of ancient architectural features and modern French luxury, so when you stay in it, you will have a feeling of the interweaving of modern and past, which is very magical. The city of Xi'an represents half of China's history. Walking in Xi'an, you can touch cultural relics with every step. The predecessor of Sofitel Legend Xian Hotel was the People's Building built in 1953. This building is the "State Guesthouse" of Xi'an and the well-deserved top hotel in Xi'an. During check-in, I felt the front desk didn’t recognize my membership status as they didn’t mention any member benefits, and the staff seemed nervous. After check-in, the butler asked at the elevator if I’d like a room tour, which I accepted. However, the minibar wasn’t introduced, so I had to call the front desk to confirm if it was chargeable. The hotel had clearly preset the temperature, a thoughtful touch! 👍 Though the room felt a bit compact due to the historic building’s constraints, the decor was meticulous and well-maintained. Very satisfied! 👍 PS: I called ahead and was assigned a room on the 5th floor. Before my stay, I read many reviews mentioning loud elevator noises, but I experienced none—it was very quiet. The pool is also compact, with the whirlpool at room temperature. The lobby bar features a Western palace-style decor—perfect for photos (several groups were shooting there). Pushing it open felt like stepping into a European castle. The shadows of the colonnade danced on the antique floor tiles, while the iris flowers decorating the revolving door exuded a subtle romantic charm. Who would have thought that in the ancient city of Xi'an, one could find such a distinctly French-styled haven? After check-in, I eagerly went to my room. The south-facing room offered an incredible view of the Ming City Wall right before my eyes. In the morning, sunlight bathed the city wall while the moat sparkled below. Young women in traditional Hanfu strolled along the riverbank - a scene both classical and beautiful, truly befitting a city that served as capital for thirteen dynasties. I discovered many perfect photo spots throughout the hotel. The spiral staircase at 10 AM, with its diagonal sunlight, looked stunning from any angle; the vintage elevator offered great mirror selfie opportunities with amazing ambiance; the corridor archways captured through a wide-angle lens produced magazine-worthy shots; and the evening view of the Bell Tower from my room window, brilliantly lit up, earned countless likes on social media. Beyond its beautiful environment, the hotel's service was equally impressive. The staff were warm and professional, quickly addressing any needs. This stay not only provided a comfortable respite during my tiring journey but also introduced me to a different kind of romance. In the afternoon, I went to the west-facing window and watched the sun dye the green dome of the People's Grand Hall an amber hue, as if time itself had slowed down. Every corner of the hotel is a perfect photo spot. At 10 am, the spiral staircase, outlined by light and shadow, resembles a dreamy spiral. A low-angle shot captures this beauty perfectly. Inside the antique elevator, a selfie in the metallic cabin needs no extra editing to create a fashionable masterpiece. At the arch of the long corridor, a wide-angle lens perfectly blends my silhouette with the retro architecture. At night, framing the Bell Tower from the room's window and using a long exposure, the brightly lit Bell Tower becomes the most dazzling presence in the photo, like a luminous pearl in the night. My time at the Sofitel Legend People's Grand Hotel Xi'an was a profound experience of culture and romance. It allows French flair to collide and blend with Xi'an's thousand-year-old heritage.
