Ulsan Travel Guide
Ulsan is a metropolitan city located in the southeastern part of Korea, with a beautiful coastline, lush forests, and a city where industry and nature coexist. It has various charms, from whale-related history, mysterious rocks, to modern industrial complexes.
1. Seoldo
A small island located in Bangeo-dong, Dong-gu, where marine ecology is well preserved, and is called ‘Seoldo’ because the waves make a ‘sseulseul’ sound. The ocean-top walking path and Seoldo Lighthouse are beautiful photo zones.
2. Daewangam Park
A park with a pine forest and strangely shaped rocks spread out on a coastal cliff. A rock island with a legend related to King Munmu of the Three Kingdoms period. Also famous for its sunrise.
3. Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Special Zone
A place where you can experience Ulsan’s whaling history and culture. It is perfect for a family trip, as it has a Whale Museum, Whale Ecology Experience Center, and Jangsaengpo Old Village.
4. Taehwagang National Garden
A large garden created around Taehwagang River that runs through downtown Ulsan. It is the perfect place for a healing walk, with a ten-mile bamboo forest trail, an ecological stream, and a flower garden.
5. Ganjeolgot
A sunrise spot located in Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun. It is famous for its large mailboxes and sculptures, and is one of the first places in the Korean Peninsula where the sun rises.
6. Munsu Football Stadium (Ulsan Munsu World Cup Stadium)
One of the 2002 World Cup stadiums, it is evaluated as a beautiful building. It is the home stadium of Ulsan Hyundai, a K-League team, and offers experience programs and game viewing.
7. Ulsan Grand Park
The largest citizen's park in Ulsan, it is popular among families with a large fountain, rose garden, zoo, and bicycle path.
8. Eonyang-eupseong & Seoknamsa
Eonyang-eupseong is a Joseon Dynasty-era fortress that is great for a walk, and nearby Seoknamsa is a historic temple founded during the Silla Dynasty with a quiet atmosphere.
9. Jujeon Mongdol Beach
A beach with an impressive sound of waves rolling pebbles. It is quiet and clean, making it a popular summer vacation spot. The cafes nearby are also cute.
10. Bangudae
Petroglyphs & National Treasure No. 285 Prehistoric petroglyphs located in Ulju-gun, depicting whales, deer, and hunting scenes. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
