The amazing Buddhist temples and grounds are definitely worth a visit. Very cool temple with Buddhist monks praying. It is a large temple in the center of Osaka. Beautiful and quiet. You can visit the surrounding for free but have to purchase a ticket if you want to visit the central building and tower.
Other than that, it’s very near from Shitennoji-mae Yuhigaoka station on tanimachi line (exit via 4).

Shitennoji is one of the oldest buildings in Japan. Its layout follows the example of Chinese temples. Gojunotou Five-storied Pagoda is a symbol of Shitennoji. The wooden tower is painted with brilliant red. On the top of stupa has six pieces of sarira. You can have a quiet and leisure moment in the courtyard. Try to slow down your steps and enjoy your afternoon.

Osaka's Shitennoji Temple is a very good place to find. At the time I was on the network, I felt that there is an element of our Chinese existence. Yes, its model comes from our China. It is built following the pattern of our Chinese temple. However, when I got there, because it was very tired, the building was very tall and needed to climb up, so I gave up the climb. When I arrived, it just had a dense rain, the sky was a bit gloomy, and the main tower was shot. The sky is not very bright.

Shitennoji Temple, an exemplar of Osaka's ancient and natural architecture.
Shitennoji Temple, located in Osaka, Japan, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the country, bearing a rich historical and cultural heritage. Within the temple, incense smoke wafts through the air as devotees earnestly pray, experiencing the tranquility and power of Buddhism. This place is not only a religious sanctuary but also a cultural heritage site. It houses many precious Buddhist artifacts and artworks, such as statues, scriptures, and paintings, showcasing the profound depth of Buddhist culture.
Additionally, every spring, the cherry blossom trees around the temple bloom in full splendor. The pink and white flowers contrast beautifully with the ancient temple architecture, creating a stunning scene.

Visit Shitennoji Temple, Built by Prince Shotoku in Osaka
I had the opportunity to stay in Osaka, so I visited Shitennoji Temple.
It was very accessible, just a short walk from Tennoji Station.
Shitennoji is one of the oldest temples in Japan, along with Asukadera in Nara, and it is said to have been built by Prince Shotoku. You can see architectural styles from the 6th to 7th centuries.
I was overwhelmed by the large pagodas like the five-story pagoda, the beautiful gardens, and the intricate decorations.
There were many foreign tourists, making it one of Japan's most attractive tourist spots.

Our family trip to Shitennoji Temple in Osaka was enriching and serene. We admired the temple's beautiful architecture, explored its peaceful gardens, and learned about its historical significance as one of Japan's oldest temples. The kids enjoyed feeding the koi fish in the pond, and we all found a sense of tranquility in the temple's sacred atmosphere.
For our next family trip, I suggest Kyoto. It's close to Osaka and offers a wealth of historical and cultural experiences. We can visit stunning temples, partake in traditional tea ceremonies, and stroll through picturesque gardens. Kyoto's blend of cultural richness and family-friendly activities makes it an ideal destination.

Shitennoji Temple in Osaka
Shitennoji Temple was established in 593 by Prince Shotoku as the earliest Buddhist temple in Japan, making it the oldest official temple in the country. It served not only as a temple for protecting the Buddhist realm and the nation but also became the hub of political and diplomatic activities, as well as the birthplace of Japanese culture, including the arts and crafts industry. The architectural style, which later came to be known as 'Shitennoji-style,' features a straight alignment of the middle gate, five-story pagoda, Golden Hall, and Lecture Hall, with an outer corridor surrounding them. This style is believed to have originated from China and the Korean Peninsula. Despite the halls, pagodas, and temples having suffered multiple times from wars, disasters, and destruction, they have always been rebuilt, thus maintaining the grandeur of the Asuka period when they were first constructed. This fully reflects the temple's long history and its significant place in the hearts of the people of Osaka.

Osaka Travel The earliest Buddhist temple in Japan - Shitennoji
Shitennoji is one of Osaka's must-see attractions and the first Buddhist temple in Japan.
I feel that there is still a difference in form between Japanese Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism, which can be seen from the pattern of the temple.

Shitennoji Temple, built in 593, is one of the oldest architectural complexes in Japan, and the deity is dedicated to the Salvation Bodhisattva.
Architecture is a red pillar white wall with the style of a Chinese temple, the whole is very elegant. The West Gate of Shitennoji Temple is an excellent place to enjoy the sunset. If you arrive in the evening, you can watch it together.

Osaka Shitennoji is the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan and one of Osaka's main landmarks. It was built in 593 AD and has a history of more than 1,400 years. The temple is dedicated to the Salvation Bodhisattva and the Four Kings. It is the tallest and most majestic building out of the Buddhist temples. Although it is the most famous Buddhist temple in Osaka, there are relatively few tourists at the Shitennoji Temple as compared to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the Kinkaku-ji Temple in Kyoto.
There is an environment in the courtyard that is not invaded by the world. The most beautiful time in the Sitianwang Temple is at twilight. At this time, the whole temple is more solemn and magnificent. Despite the war and natural disasters, Sitian Temple still maintains its historical features. Its temple architecture is deeply influenced by China. There are many celebrations every year, including Doya-Doya Festival, Holy Spirit Society and Wandawang Temple Wasso. These fully demonstrate the status of this ancient traditions even in the millennium.
