Tokyo Fall Leaf Viewing Guide: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Autumn is here, and if you're in Tokyo, you must plan a fall leaf viewing trip! This time, I went to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. I had only seen cherry blossoms here before, and I didn't expect the fall foliage to be so beautiful.
📍Address: 11 Naitomachi, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0014, Japan
🚗Transportation: Take the Yamanote Line, Chuo Line, or Marunouchi Line to Shinjuku Station
🕙Opening hours: 9:00 am–4:00 pm
💰Admission: JPY 200 for adults, JPY 50 for children
🌟Highlights: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden spans the popular Shinjuku and Shibuya areas and is the largest garden in Tokyo, combining Japanese, French, and English elements. Visitors are all attracted to it.
The garden has three gardens: a Japanese garden, an English garden, and a French formal garden. There is also a large greenhouse and a mother-child forest that will make you linger.
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is famous for its cherry blossoms, but it is not just cherry blossoms. The plane trees in summer, the maple leaves and chrysanthemums in autumn, and the greenhouse in winter all present different scenery.
📌Tips:
✅There are three entrances to the park, and you can use a transportation card to pay for the ticket. There are many visitors during the cherry blossom and fall foliage seasons, so it is recommended to go early to line up. If you go late, you won't be able to take any photos.
✅Makoto Shinkai's movie "The Garden of Words" was filmed here. If you are a fan of anime, it is recommended to come again in summer. The lush greenery after the rain is very healing.
✅The French garden is beautiful. In addition to plane trees, there are more than 100 kinds of roses planted here, which bring a strong visual impact and a strong rose fragrance.
✅The public lawn in the center of the park is very popular. Now is the fall foliage season, and when the weather is nice, you can lie on the lawn or have a picnic with your loved one, which is very romantic.
✅In addition to the fall foliage, the golden ginkgo trees are also a beautiful sight in the park. The best time to see the fall foliage and ginkgo trees is now until mid-December, so hurry up and enjoy the autumn.

Attraction: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
📍Address: 11 Naitocho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan
🕰️Business hours: General hours 09:00~18:00 (Ye Feng activities until 22:00 in the evening)
💰Per capita consumption: general admission ticket ¥600 yen, Monday to Thursday during the Night Maple event: ¥1800 yen / Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays: ¥2200 yen
💞Recommended reasons:
Tokyo's back garden, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, spans Shinjuku and Shibuya districts and covers an area of 58.3 hectares. During the Edo period, it was the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu's retainer Naito Kiyonari. It was planned as an imperial garden in 1906 and opened to the public as a national park in 1949.
Transportation strategy: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden has three entrances and exits: Shinjuku Gate, Okito Gate, and Sendagaya Gate. Among them, Shinjuku Gate is the main entrance used by many people. You can walk to Shinjuku from JR Shinjuku Station, Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line "Shinjuku-sanchome" station, Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line "Shinjuku Gyoen-mae" station, Seibu Shinjuku Line "Seibu-Shinjuku" and Toei Shinjuku Line "Shinjuku-sanchome" station Door. If you are on vacation, you can enter through the large wooden door, and there is a parking lot next to it. Sentaya Gate is the least used gate. From JR Sobu Line Sentani Gate Station and Toei Subway Oedo Line to National Arena Station, this entrance is close to the large lawn of the Children's Plaza (こども広Field)" is relatively close.
Shinjuku Gyoen Garden has three different types of gardens, namely Japanese garden, integral garden and landscape garden. Each garden has unique highlights that vary from season to season, and are especially beautiful during the cherry blossom and red leaf seasons. What I came to see this time was the night maples during the red leaf season, that is, maple viewing at night. NAKED, a Japanese mapping design team, has held many mapping exhibitions so far, mostly from the end of November to the beginning of December. The beautiful maple viewing spot "Red Leaf Mountain" is one of the highlights of the event. Using light mapping projection to show the ever-changing colors of maple leaves from green to fiery red, and then using tiny light spots and light mapping color refraction to show the moving beauty of falling leaves in Japanese autumn under nightlight. This event will also be held this year, you can go and see it.

The early cherry blossoms in Tokyo bestow upon me an extra tenderness every four years
It is this planet that gives us an additional gentleness.
What makes today different is,
under the first blooming cherry tree in Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo, I saw the pink cherry blossoms, the mischievous little birds, and had my first sip of the spring cherry blossom special drink.
An extra day. Another day to love life more.
There are small beauties everywhere in life, I hope we all have a pair of eyes to find beauty, and experience it together.
Compared to the bustling commercial areas, I prefer to be close to nature, alone or with like-minded friends, to discover different kinds of beauty.

Urban Oasis🌸 Cherry Blossoms of Shinjuku Gyoen
In the verdant expanse of Shinjuku Gyoen, approximately 900 cherry trees flourish, their blossoms a spectacle to behold✨️. With an estimated 70 different varieties, the park offers a diverse array of cherry blossoms to admire🥰. The extended blooming period, typically from mid-February to late April, allows for a prolonged period of enjoyment😌💓. The Kawazu cherry trees are soon expected to reach their peak bloom🥳. We highly recommend an early visit for a delightful hanami experience!
In 2023, the park was illuminated by NAKED, providing a magical setting to appreciate the nocturnal beauty of the cherry blossoms🌸. As of now, there has been no announcement for this year, so daytime hanami might be the only option. However, we believe that basking in the sun while admiring the cherry blossoms will be a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

One of my favorite spots in Tokyo :)
Shinjuku Gyoen is one of my favorite spots in Tokyo for relaxation and tranquility.
Whether I choose to find a quiet spot under a shady tree or sit by the tranquil pond, Shinjuku Gyoen never fails to rejuvenate my spirit. It's a sanctuary where I can unwind, read a book, or simply bask in the beauty of my surroundings. It's a place that reminds me to slow down, appreciate the present moment, and find peace within myself. 🧘♀️💫
Shinjuku Gyoen is comprised of three different types of gardens: a traditional Japanese landscape garden, a symmetrically arranged French garden, and an English landscape garden. There is a greenhouse, as well.

Prettiest Park in Tokyo - Shinjuku Gyoen
We had the opportunity to visit Shinjuku Gyoen during the early cherry blossom season, although most of the cherry blossoms tree hadn't bloomed yet, the park itself was incredibly beautiful. We were fortunate to see a few weeping cherry blossoms and Somei Yoshino trees in full bloom, although most of the Kawazu cherry blossoms had already withered.
Since the Hanami season hadn't started yet, the park wasn't very crowded, and the spring weather was perfect for a picnic or even just taking a nap under the cherry blossom trees. If you'd like to visit Shinjuku Gyoen, we would suggest checking the weather forecast before visiting!

This is the NAKED Sakura Night Garden illumination held in Tokyo, Shinjuku Park. The park is a 10 minutes walk away from Shinjuku Station. However, there is a queue into the park which made us walk more than 20 minutes to reach till the end of the queue. Each group is allowed to take a lantern for the walk~ All I could say is pretty! Especially when the Sakura petals fall ~ it stands out more in the dark 😍

Shinjuku Gyoen Sakura Blooming
Shinjuku Gyoen is located in Shinjuku Gyoen-mae Station, which is a very convenient place to enjoy flowers. Due to the convenient transportation, there are many tourists. It is recommended to visit in the morning. After noon, you need to queue up to enter the venue. The admission fee is 500 yen for adults. Shinjuku Gyoen is mainly divided into four areas, including scenic gardens, Japanese-style gardens, parent-child forest areas, and square pools. There is a Starbucks coffee restaurant in the scenic garden, which can overlook the pool and sakura. The scenery is very beautiful. There are many kinds of Sakura in the park, and they are all luxuriant trees. It is very beautiful to take photos and is worth recommending. There is a large grassland in the garden, and there are many family-sized tourists picnic on the grassland. You can enjoy the blossoms at the same time, which is very freehand.

❤️JAPAN❤️
So many travelers go to Tokyo in spring for sakura blooming, this is Shinjuku Gyoen.
If you wanna go to Shinjuku Gyoen for sakura blooming photos I prefer you dress up more vintage because you will look more elegant and not like a tourist.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden on a sunny afternoon
It is pre cherry blossom season and we wondered if Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden would have been as nice as we last visited. A 10-minutes walking distance from Shinjuku station, we saw long lines of people waiting to enter the garden. Once we are inside, there are some trees that are already blossoming. The garden looks beautiful as ever. People here still wear masks but life is back to a certain kind of normal. We had a great time here #themepark

Beautiful garden to Hangout in Tokyo
One of my favorite park in Tokyo. Huge amount of open space and tons of well maintained trees and greens and different types of flowers. We saw lots of roses late autumn still. But we missed most of the foliage.
If you want a quick escape from this big city, this is a must go. Best for picnic on a mild sunny day.
You also see there are couple coffee and tea shops to relax a bit.#beachlife #2023travelwish #mytripvlog #tripblazers

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
After a very heavy first night in Japan, I headed here to wander through the beautiful gardens. If anything is going to clear your head and help give you clarity in life it is this place! Sitting on the grass and looking into the distance you can see the city of Japan and it's beautiful skyline of buildings. The park was so quiet and serene, with so many pretty flowers and greenery. I remember many times in Japan on my trip, but this place was definitely one of them. Loved it

Late Autumn in Tokyo
Timing is everything when traveling to countries that have four seasons. In Japan, spring is perhaps the most popular time to visit when the sakura trees are in full bloom. But autumn also offers a different kind of vibe.
There are many places where you can bask in the sight of the golden ginkgo trees and the blood red maple leaves. In fact, locals call such activity as “momiji-gari” which simply means “autumn leaves hunting”.
The Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Tokyo is one of the most beautiful parks in Japan where Tokyoites would visit to see the autumn colors.
Actually, I took those photos last December 3rd. This time is already considered late autumn. The sun set earlier and the evening was chilly. It somehow signaled me that winter is coming sooner.
My hope and wish for the new year is that you get to travel to Japan at the right time. 🙏🏼#2023travelwish

Beautiful Fall Foliage
#fallingforfall
Address: 11 Naitomachi, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0014, Japan
Nearest station: JR Shinjuku station/Shinjukugyoenmae Station/JR Sendagaya Station (multiple entrances)
During fall, Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the most visited gardens in the Tokyo area due to the beautiful fall foliage and the accessibility of the garden. In addition, with the huge spacious garden with 3 different gardens in 1 location, this also provides a quick escape from the hectic environment, and allows you to take a short relaxing stroll before going back.
The garden becomes very colourful in fall due to the colour change of the different trees in the garden, especially the maple 🍁 trees. We had a great time enjoying the scenic view and hope to be back again soon.

LATE SPRING @SHINJUKU GYOEN NATIONAL GARDEN
#asiatrip
It was unplanned trip during my visit to Tokyo that time. Even i knew it was very low chances for me to see sakura flowers in Tokyo, alas i decided to proceed this trip without putting so much thinking into it.
Shinjuku gyoen national garden was my first place for this sakura hunting. The moment i stepped into the entrance, all of the trees in that area already with leaves. But as this national garden is really huge, then i kept walking with the hope of finding sakura blooming at least in one out of thousands sakura trees in that garden. ( cross finger ).
I still remember how i felt when i managed to see the glimpse of white and pink flowers at one section of the garden. I could not described how excited am i at that moment. And yes!!! it was never too late for me to experience the beautiful sakura in Tokyo.
For those who are planning to do Hanami in Tokyo, the guidelines given on the web normally just for guidance. At the end, nature is still nature, we can not predict precisely. Dont ever lose hope, try to visit as many gardens as you can because there is always a possibilities some trees still in peak blooming period.
Happy Sakura hunting guys!!

Shinjuku Gyoen
Shinjuku Gyoen (新宿御苑) is one of Tokyo's largest and most popular parks. Located just a short walk from Shinjuku Station, the paid park's spacious lawns, meandering walking paths and tranquil scenery provide a relaxing escape from the busy urban center around it. In spring Shinjuku Gyoen becomes one of the best places in the city to see cherry blossoms.
Shinjuku Gyoen originated during the Edo Period (1603-1867) as a feudal lord's Tokyo residence. Later it was converted into a botanical garden before being transferred to the Imperial Family in 1903 who used used it for recreation and the entertainment of guests. The park was almost completely destroyed during World War II, but was eventually rebuilt and reopened in 1949 as a public park.
The oldest is a traditional Japanese landscape garden featuring large ponds dotted with islands and bridges. Well manicured shrubs and trees surround the water together with several pavilions and the Kyu Goryotei (also called the Taiwan Pavilion) which was built on the occasion of the wedding of the Showa Emperor. A chrysanthemum exhibit is held during the first two weeks of November in the Japanese garden with flower displays and large, temporary pavilions erected around the grounds.
The park's other main gardens include a symmetrically arranged formal French garden, and an English landscape garden featuring wide, open lawns surrounded by flowering cherry trees. The rest of the park consists of forested areas, lawns and several structures including a restaurant, an information center and an art gallery. There is also a beautiful greenhouse with many tropical and subtropical flowers.

Seeing these marvelous gifts of nature during the Spring season really made my first solo travel in Tokyo an extra special! The garden was so welcoming and there were lots of tourists continuously coming in. This is one of my favorite places during my stay here.
A few traveler friends told me to visit Japan and assured me that I would definitely love my stay, not just the technology that Japan have but also the preserved natured over the entire time. And true enough, I listened to my friends. This proved that “If you never go, you will never know.”

Spring time visit in Tokyo! Did Hanami at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and it was refreshing. Was there in Tokyo for a quick business trip, so I needed for distressing moment, and great that I got that moment of peace in this garden. It is located in Shinjuku and Shibuya altogether because it is such a large park. It is best to be there during Spring or Autumn. This place offers such a breather.

The cherry blossom season is really good. This is the best venue for the “Cherry Blossom Viewing Party”. It is said to be an urban oasis. I went to the greenhouse for the first time, and it was interesting because various plants were grown. Although it was a weekday, the weather was good, so many people were watching cherry blossoms under the cherry trees. Still, because it is a large park, there was no feeling of being crowded and I could see the cherry blossoms slowly. The cherry blossom trees are also growing freely. There are many types, so you can enjoy it for a long time. There are many flowers besides cherry blossoms, so I would like to come also during change season.

With all the hustle and bustle of Tokyo there are not many quiet areas but this is one. 500 yen to get in and you can spend the day there wandering the paths and looking at all the gardens and plants. Some nice lakes. A very peaceful spot and one of the highlights of tokyo

This is a quiet courtyard in a bustling city, lush, and it seems that there are not many mountains in the parks of Tokyo. However, when the clock dialed back to the summer of 2013, as another new work by Xin Haicheng went online, it began to become different a large number of anime fans came here for pilgrimage. The name of the
movie is called "The Garden of Words" (Yu Ye Ye Ting Ting), and this beautiful courtyard is the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, which is known as the three major national parks in Japan with the Imperial Palace and Kyoto Imperial Garden. Chun Ying Qiu Feng, here is the care of nature. The appearance of the animation of Ye Ye Zhi Ting has also brought a layer of second-class charm here many important scenes including posters are included here.
Maybe its a good luck. When I walked into Shinjuku Gate with an umbrella, no one was crowded. The big park was cold and clear, and it was difficult for tourists to trace. In the afternoon, there was an annoying rain, and the green woods were more enchanting, grassy, and the lake was a little bit sloppy.
For the trip, the rain level adds a little inconvenience, but for Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, it is a icing on the cake. The romantic Dongting is undisturbed, and the scenes in the film are at your fingertips. I also know that most of the scenes in Japanese anime have prototypes in reality. If you can't tell which second, we will be in the world of infinite fantasy.
With the blessing of the Word of the Court, this seemingly bland garden seems to have aura, and people can't stop wanting to know more about it.
Attraction Profile
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a combination of a Japanese garden and a French garden. It was granted to Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Edo period. As the royal courtyard, the original Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is responsible for providing the tree branches and seeds of the street trees in Tokyo. Since the sixth year of Taisho (1917) and the fourth year of the Showa (1929), Shinjuku Gyoen has become a fixed place for the cherry blossom viewing and the Chrysanthemum.
If you are also a fan of Ye Ye Zhi Ting, you may wish to stay here when you visit Tokyo next time. Perhaps you can have more discoveries.
