Today we will introduce a famous day-trip hot spring in Otofuke town adjacent to Obihiro. Marumigaoka Onsen is famous for its high-quality moor hot spring, and the baths are large, so in summer you can soak while looking out at the fresh greenery filling the windows. The moor hot spring is brown in color and has a slightly viscous nature, which feels great on the skin. There is also a cafe space on the premises, so you can take a break with a coffee after your bath. If you are driving, it is about 10 minutes from Obihiro Station or Otofuke Interchange. It is about a 20-minute walk from the bus stop in front of Kino Agricultural Cooperative. #hotspring

A beautiful light-up event is held at Tokachigaoka Observatory in winter. Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has not been held for a while, but it is the first time in a long time. Tokachi Ranch, which has a vast area of ​​land located around Otofuke, north of Obihiro Station, holds the Umaoi event only in the winter. There is a large ice building near the entrance to Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan. This place is usually used as an ice bar, where you can enjoy drinks in ice glasses. Unfortunately, the ice bar was not open when I visited, but I was able to enjoy the beautiful ice interior. #Snowscape #Ice

This is a dam lake on the banks of the Nukabira Dam. It is famous for being one of the first places in Hokkaido to enjoy ice fishing, as it is located at a high altitude and freezes over completely quite early. However, my personal recommendation is the ice bubbles that form under the ice. This natural phenomenon occurs when the forest submerged in the dam releases gas and freezes along with the bubbles, as shown in the photo. They are smaller and finer than those seen in Lake Akan and Lake Kussharo, but are also dynamic. The East Daisetsu region is located between Kamikawa and Kamishihoro Town. It is home to Higashinupkashiunupuri, where you can see pikas, and Lake Nukabira, which freezes over in winter. There is an observation deck where you can look out over the vast Tokachi landscape while eating original soft serve ice cream. The hiking trail is along National Route 85 (with easy-to-follow signs). There is also a public bus. It takes 40-50 minutes one way from the trailhead to the summit. The rock garden where the pikas live is about 10 minutes from the summit. The bamboo grass is quite thick at this time of year, but the path is well-marked, so you shouldn't get lost. I've been to see them about 5 times so far, and I've seen them 100% of the time. However, it's quite difficult to find them, even if you can hear them calling...I think you'll be sure to see them if you hang on for about 2-3 hours. The pikas themselves are there all year round (they don't hibernate), but the safe time to hike is from June to October. The temperature seems to be just right for them at around 10-15℃, and they are especially active in the morning or evening. However, thanks to the wind hole (and the permafrost deep inside the hole), it's cool all year round. It's almost cold. I recommend bringing long sleeves even if you visit in the middle of summer. Lake Shikaribetsu is also known as the "Lake in the Sky" because it is the highest lake in Hokkaido at 810 meters above sea level. Due to its altitude and the fact that it is surrounded by wind holes, it is a very cool place even in midsummer, and this campsite is located on the north shore of the lake. The surrounding area is surrounded by recreational forests and is very quiet. Please be careful as there is a steep unpaved road downhill. When you go down to the lake, you will see the remains of Sannosawa Bridge. The very large arch was impressive. Taushubetsu River Bridge at Lake Nukabira It appears on the surface of the lake depending on the water level of Lake Nukabira, which is a dam lake, and when the water level rises, it is submerged. I wanted to see the scenery where the lake water recedes and stumps are scattered, so I aimed to go from mid- to late May, when the water level usually recedes. However, the amount of precipitation also plays a role, so it is not guaranteed. There are two ways to get here. 1. Join a tour. If you are a first-time visitor, a tour is probably safer. 2. Go on your own. In this case, the gate is locked, so you will need to borrow a key from the Tokachi Western Forest Management Office Higashidaisetsu Branch Office. The road from the gate to the bridge is a gravel road that is barely wide enough for one car, and there are brown bears along the way. The Taushubetsu River Bridge is a concrete arch bridge on the former Shihoro Line (abandoned) of the Japanese National Railways, located at Lake Nukabira in Hokkaido. Selected as one of the first Hokkaido Heritage Sites, its nickname "Megane Bridge" is a phantom bridge that appears and disappears depending on the water level 😃 On the road leading to the observation deck, there is a Hokkaido specialty, a "Beware of Brown Bears" sign 😱 Bears really do appear... #QuintessaCampaign
