Petra has also been referred to as the “Rose City” because of the colour of the stones used in its buildings. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 I checked off my second Jordan bucket list here, which is to see The Treasury (Al-Khazneh). To get here, you first walk the 1.2km long Siq, a narrow gorge that serves as the entrance to Petra. I recommend spending two days here because the place is massive and there is so much to see in Petra. Top tip: take pictures on your way back from the trails around 5 pm when people start leaving. #Overseas travel After much research, I was able to go to Petra, Jordan for a day trip from Dahab for about $210🇯🇴 I wanted to see as many places as possible on a single trip, so I went on a very tight tour schedule of about 21 hours🤣 Depart Dahab at 3:30 am Move to the ferry dock Go through Egyptian immigration at the ferry dock Take a ferry to Aqaba, Jordan After arriving at Aqaba, go through Jordan immigration Go to a restaurant for lunch Arrive at Petra at 13:00 and tour (about 3-4 hours) Move back to Aqaba Go through Jordan immigration from Aqaba Go to Dahab by ferry After arriving, go through Egyptian immigration Arrive at the accommodation around 00:00 (Including all transportation, ferry, lunch, Petra admission fee) How is it...? The picture archaeological site is massive and although many of the main sites are quite easily accessible to see some of the other other sites and to get great views over the park we need to to hike up to one of the viewpoints. There are three or four different viewpoints you could choose from so do some research before you go and choose which one you think is best for you. 📍Jordan Petra 🚗You can travel from Amman to Petra by JETT bus (10JD) It's tiring, but I've done a round trip on the same day. Departing at dawn and arriving at night. 🕠Opening hours: Summer 6:00-18:00/Winter 6:00-16:00 (Check the operating hours for Night Petra separately) 💵Entrance fee: 50JD per day/1JD for locals or foreigners with residence permits ▫️Before Christ, Petra was the capital of the Nabatean kingdom, and it is said that these Nabateans built Al Khazneh. ▫️They say that water used to flow here, and traces of it remain on the roadside. ✔️It feels much farther from the Petra ticket office to Al Khazneh than you think. (If you go in the summer, it's really hot🥵 I gave a tip and rode a horse to reduce my stamina. ✔️They ask for a tip to go up the hill, saying that an expert should guide you. If you go up that hill, you can take pretty pictures with the Al Khazneh view. (You should also give a tip when taking pictures here.) ✔️You can ride a donkey on the way up the other hill past Al Khazneh. When you are in Amman you must visit Petra. There are a lot of trails to walk. Yes you can see the treasury and just be in Petra in less than half a day, but you wont see the views from the top. If you want to and if you are ready to do some serious walking then full 1 day is a minimum and in reality you need 2 days to have time to walk around. Check schedule for „Petra by night” which is unique experience and strongly recommended.

Petra, Jordan, one of the Seven Wonders of the World :) It is a mysterious place that is even listed as a World Heritage Site. You may not be able to tell from the photos, but when you see it in person, you will be overwhelmed by the majesty of the rock and it is so big that you can't even imagine how they built it! If you pay the really expensive entrance fee of 50JD (about 90,000 won) and go in, there are horses and donkeys lined up at the entrance to carry tourists, but it is enough to walk around, so unless you are visiting in the very hot summer, I recommend walking! If you walk along the red and yellow walls and sand, you can enjoy seeing various buildings and livestock, and the pictures come out really well! In the case of the first picture in my post, a local person took it for me for a lot of money... All good photo spots require you to pay to enter, so don't just give them to them and be sure to bargain for a cheap price! This post breaks-down the cost of my trip to Jordan, the purpose of this post is to provide an insight into what is possible and how you can go on lifetime adventures for less than we’re expected to believe. Beginning with the main headline overall it cost £275 to take a 5 day trip to Jordan and visit one of the world wonders Petra. This cost includes return flights, hotels, visa and tickets to Petra. Below I am going to break down the costs and the options available to save money and have a fantastic experience rich trip. Flights cost £75 and were booked around 10 days in Advance at the beginning of January from Liverpool. The flight itinerary involved 3 stops in total, a small layover 2 hour layover in Budapest, 12 hours in Venice and 10 hours in Brussels. The Venice layover in particular I utilised to get a €10 return ticket from the airport to the city centre and explored the beautiful city. Moving onto Hotels Jordan offers a wide variety of hotels at varying levels like most countries in the world. In my case I opted for budget rooms in the capital city of Amman and one with a nice view in Wadi-Musa the town that is situated next to Petra. For me personally travelling I opt for the cheaper rooms as I have itineraries planned that involve me constantly being on that go resulting in the hotel room just being a quick resting and storage location. In Wadi-Musa I was able to get a room with a beautiful view and private bathroom for 19JOD (Jordanian Dinar) which is around £20-£21. Making the cost of Hotels very affordable compared to Europe and the United Kingdom in particular. When choosing hotels in Amman my recommendation would be to consider your itinerary first, if you plan to visit a lot of the sites you can find a cheap room located in the old part of Amman for 12-20JOD. I would personally recommend this as the markets and restaurants of a night time in this part of Amman are authentic and special in my opinion. The additional bonus to this is you will be within 20 minutes walk of all major old sites within Amman. The total cost for Tickets and Visas for my trip to Jordan was 75JOD (£83.90), included in this price is a tourist visa, two day access to Petra as well as access to other sites all over Jordan included Amman. The process is easy and a government run scheme, this gave me confidence that the price was reasonable. In terms of the visa aspects of the pass you do this process by printing off a ticket with a barcode provided via email and show it at Airport customs. For Petra the process is going to a separate usually shorter ticket line at the entrance and picking up your tickets taking less than two minutes. To conclude I hope this information has helped show and provide some tips so help anyone visit the majestic country of Jordan, you will not regret it! #travelguide #jordan #solotravel
