On my recent trip to Osaka I was looking for more unique things to do, that are often not at the top of everyone’s list of must-see things. I decided to go further North of the downtown area and discovered Nakanoshima. In middle of the Okawa River is a sandbank piece of land that has many museums. Nakanoshima is a beautiful island in the city where cultural, political and business facilities are concentrated. The three kilometre island is home to some of Osaka’s best museums, restaurants and hotels. The science museum is located in Nakanoshima in the center of Osaka city. It is very convenient to get here by subway, consisting of an exhibition hall and a planetarium. You can see that although some of the interactive items in the exhibition hall are a bit old, they do not affect their use at all. After buying tickets on the basement floor, take the elevator straight to the fourth floor, and then visit each floor in descending order. Easily spent 2 hours here. It's in Japanese but you will get through with google translate camera. Lots of school aged children, but it is interesting for adults as well. I love how inexpensive it is (400 yen for adults, 350 yen for high school students, free for middle school and under.) The planetarium has a separate fee, but it's worth the price. The planetarium that we watched was difficult for our elementary and middle school kids (English and Japanese bilingual) to understand in Japanese, and I wished they used easier terms for little kids or something. There is a lot of interaction and it is displayed in the way of children. It's a pity that the video hall is all in Japanese. Tourists only 320 yen, very cheap.
