The Namba Yasaka Shrine was founded so long ago that the exact age cannot be determined. But early records date from about 1069, when the ancient shrine guarded this area of Namba. After the Meiji Restoration, it was abandoned for a while due to the separation of gods and Buddhas. The main hall of the current shrine was rebuilt in May 1974. Held on the third Sunday of January every year, the Tsunayin Shinji Matsuri (Tug-of-War Shinto Matsuri) is a festival designated as an intangible folk culture by Osaka City. The most striking thing in the house is the huge lion hall facing the entrance. It is very shocking to greet the worshippers who enter the shrine with a big mouth with golden teeth. If you look closely, the mouth of the huge lion head is a stage, the eyes are lights, and the nose is a sound. Every year during the festival, wonderful performances are performed on this stage.
