[2024 Kazbegi Attraction] Travel Guide for Mt Kazbek (Updated Nov)
No.19 of Best Things to Do in Georgia
Mountains
Address:
Mt Kazbek, Georgia
Recommended sightseeing time:
4-6 hours
The snow-capped mountains of this visa-free country are so beautiful! The Caucasus Mountains are always worth it!
🏔️✨ Standing in the midst of Mount Kazbek, I opened the map and carefully discerned the directions. Just 14 kilometers away is Russia. Could this be the Great Caucasus Mountains that mark the boundary between Asia and Europe? As a former geography class representative, looking at the distant snow-capped mountains, the geographical knowledge about the Caucasus Mountains seemed to flood back into my mind.
🤦🏻♂️✨ It's as if I saw myself back in geography class, looking at our geography teacher who had long since gone bald, emphasizing over and over again that everything about the Great Caucasus Mountains was a key point for the exams, and that these knowledge points had to be remembered. I never imagined that after more than a decade, I would be standing on the very knowledge points I had firmly memorized.
🏞✨ 'Where is the boundary line of the Eurasian continent?' 'What is the difference in the snow line between the north and south slopes?' 'A brief analysis of the reasons for the numerous rivers in the central region of the Caucasus Mountains'—these knowledge points flashed through my mind, as if the present me was having a time-traveling dialogue with the student me.
🇬🇪✨ In fact, before coming to Georgia, I can say that I hardly did any planning. The visa-free policy and direct flights from home only informed me that Mount Kazbek was beautiful, but I never expected it to be the Great Caucasus Mountains. Standing at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, it seemed as if long-sealed memories were awakened.
📸✨ The solemn main peak of Mount Kazbek, covered with pure white snow, and the biting cold wind of the Caucasus, even in summer, feels icy cold. As long as it's a clear day, it's a great opportunity for 📷 photography. Standing on the alpine meadow, whether photographing the snow-capped mountains in front or the profound churches, it's all a beautiful scene.
📸✨ The majestic snow-capped mountains are imposing, and no matter how you 📷 photograph them, they are stunningly beautiful. But turning to look at the lazy herd of cows lying on the grassland, there's a different kind of beauty, one of peaceful times, which is truly intoxicating. The distant church, like a pearl, is set in this picturesque scenery, standing independently amidst the green forests.
🏔️✨ Standing on the pure summit of such high mountains, it feels as if all things have been cleansed of their superficiality, and I just want to sit quietly on the ground, spacing out, quietly enjoying the scent of snow-capped mountains and green grass. That feeling that everything is just right is indescribable in any language.

Life Travel Checklist: Independent Small Towns from the Former Soviet Union
Kazbek town is world-famous for the Orthodox monk Saint Stephen once established a monastery here. By the 19th century, a very famous writer, Alexander Kazbegi, emerged here. In memory of this celebrity, both the mountain and the town were renamed Kazbegi, but the road signs are still Stepantsminda.
Do you see the church on the distant mountain? It is shrouded in a layer of light smoke, just as Pushkin's poem says, 'Like an ark floating in the sky, it appears and disappears in the rolling mountains.' The perennial snow and the Kazbek peak that appears and disappears in the sea of clouds give the picture a sense of seclusion from the world.
The Holy Trinity Church at an altitude of 2200 meters on Mount Kazbek is said to be the closest place to heaven. It is secluded, independent, and has an attitude of looking down on everything and being indifferent to the world.
Mount Kazbek has a landmark building because of it, and it also has a sense of mystery in the legend because of Mount Kazbek, the place where Prometheus was imprisoned by Zeus after stealing the sacred fire.
The unified price for finding a charter car in the town to go up the mountain to the church is 50 lari. This price is indeed high, but because the snowy mountain road is difficult to walk, so this price does not bargain. In fact, you can also hike up, it is said that the total time is about 2 hours, the scenery along the way is good so you won't feel too tired. But it is more suitable for spring, summer and autumn, winter hiking is not recommended, some sections of the road surface are icy, difficult to walk and dangerous.
Jetsetter Foodie
After a long, steep climb in 32 degrees, we reached the view point of the glacier below mount Kazbeg. The route is clear and very busy. It can be difficult terrain at times, so walking boots and poles are advised. Climb time from the gergeti church was 2 1/2 hours and 1 1/2 hours descent.
Very well worth the effort for amazing unrivalled views.

Georgia's autumn off-road trip to appreciate the beauty of nature. Depart from the capital Tbilisi and head north along the Military Highway to reach Kazbegi Mountain National Park.
🔆Georgia's autumn off-road trip to appreciate the beauty of nature
Depart from the capital Tbilisi and head north along the Military Highway to reach Kazbegi Mountain National Park.
Along the way, the Trinity Church on the top of the mountain stands quietly on the top of the mountain. The stone structure is full of historical heaviness, and you can immerse yourself in the long river of time inadvertently. Looking into the distance, there are couples walking in the mountains. The real travel is slow and happy, letting nature and the sacred witness the beautiful love.
🚗Take an off-road vehicle and bump along the cliff mountain road, you can go deep into the alpine meadows, and the forests, rivers and waterfalls are all in sight. Along the way, you can overlook the full view of Kazbegi Mountain Town. The houses in the town are scattered at the foot of the mountain, and you can see the curling smoke, as if you are in a paradise. As the altitude rises, you can appreciate the changes in natural landscapes such as valleys and forests. There are many hiking routes, and you will meet many backpackers from all over the world along the way, admiring their perseverance, because the road is really not easy to walk. If you have enough travel time, you can choose, it will bring unforgettable memories in life.

Lonely Planet | Mount Kazbek
Finally checked off the Lonely Planet cover, the mountain monastery of Mount Kazbek. To be honest, the roads in the Caucasus Mountains are very winding, so be sure to bring motion sickness medicine in advance. I threw up many times along the way and almost couldn't take it anymore. The scenery is undeniably beautiful, but the wind on the mountain is very strong. I recommend bringing a windbreaker. Put it on at each scenic spot and take it off when you get back in the car because without the wind, it feels very hot.

Kazbegi has never been to Georgia for nothing
Believe that everyone's recognition of Georgia starts with the photos of Mount Kazbek.
Here lies the church closest to heaven⛪️—the Holy Trinity Church, which stands particularly solitary against the backdrop of the snowy mountains.
If you go to Georgia and don't visit Mount Kazbek, it's truly a wasted trip😭
Mount Kazbek is the sacred mountain of the Caucasians, with Kazbegi peak at an altitude of 5033 meters. Although it is the third highest peak in Georgia, it is the most magnificent one among the Caucasus Mountains.
📜Legend has it that Prometheus, the fire-stealer🔥 in Greek mythology, was chained to this mountain by Zeus.
The Holy Trinity Church of Stepantsminda, perched among the clouds☁️ at an altitude of 2170 meters, is known as 'the church closest to the sky in the world'.
This church was built in the 14th century, located among the clouds at an altitude of 2170 meters, backed by the Kazbek snow mountain of over 5000 meters. From the town of Stepantsminda, people can gaze👀 at this sacred church and the snowy mountain from afar.
The Holy Trinity Church on Mount Kazbek is different from those uniquely shaped, eye-catching church buildings in Europe🤔. It is built in a simple and rustic style, blending with nature, and the entire landscape is not abrupt but enough to shake the soul.
In Georgia, there is a belief that to get closer to God, one must make an effort, and only true believers will overcome the numerous difficulties of the mountains👣 to reach the church at the top. This church embodies this spirit of faith.
‼️If you want to see the golden glow of the sunrise on the mountain🏔️, you need to check the weather and sunrise time in advance, and arrive at the viewing spot early to have a chance to see it.
‼️If you want to see the snowy mountains, it is best to go from November to April, otherwise the snow❄️ will melt.

Kazbegi / Stepantsminda / Georgia
The view on the pictures says it all without actually in fact me using any words! Forgot about overpriced skiing resorts in Western or Central Europe. Georgia will over even better views for 5 times less in value and similar amenities and services. The local restaurants are good in terms of prices, and severe local and international dishes. You can also taste in every place extremely famous Georgian wine, again for the price you can afford to drink in whole bottles quantities! (and it is also so tasty!!! I recommend personally semi sweet Kindzmarauli.) This was my first visit and I will definitely make it my winter capital for the upcoming years!!! #naturalwonders #staycation #mountainview #georgia #kazbegi #stepantsminda #skiadventure #mountain #nationalpark #awesomepic #summervacation #givethanks

Georgia's Kazbegi Mountain, beautiful!
Georgia travel recommendation: Kazbegi, a place that makes people reluctant to leave! Legend has it that Mount Kazbek is the place where Prometheus was imprisoned by Zeus after stealing fire, and it is also the standard boundary line between the Eurasian plates.
Buick Mountain is covered in snow all year round. From a distance, it looks like a giant ice cream 🍦. It takes about 3 hours to drive from the capital Tbilisi. The mountain is very cold, so it is recommended to bring a down jacket for warmth.
Buick
💰Ticket: Free
👀Suggested duration of visit: 2 days
🚃Transportation:
✅1. Take a bus to get there. Take bus route 46 in the city to Didube bus station. The bus fare is 0.5 lari . Then take a mini-bus from the bus station to reach Kazbegi town. The fare is 10 lari .
✅2. Charter a car. Negotiate with the driver for the price. My friend paid 45 Lari per person for a round trip . On the way, we met a lady from Northeast China who paid 150 Lari for the charter and could stop anytime.
🌟If you want to go to the church ⛪️ on the mountaintop
✅1. You can charter a car from the foot of the mountain. Generally, the driver will first quote 50 Lari for round trip. After negotiating with the driver for a long time, we settled on 30 Lari and stayed at the mountaintop for half an hour.
✅2. You can also hike up the mountain, which takes about 2 hours, but the snow is slippery halfway and going up and down would take 4 hours, so I gave up and chose to charter a car instead.
🌟Tips: The last mini bus from Kazbegi to the city center of Tbilisi is at 5pm, so don't miss the return time if you want to go, my friends.

Georgia | Tbilisi - Kazbek chartered day trip
To get to Kazbek from Tbilisi, you have to mention Georgia's famous highway - Military Road, this all The 220-kilometer, dangerous road is the only road in Georgia that crosses the Caucasus Mountains to Russia. However, because it used to be a great trade crossroad, although most of the towns along the route have long since become ruins, this road is full of fortresses and towers, and is also known as the most beautiful road in Georgia.
Considering that many places along the route need to stay and take photos, the best way to travel is to charter a car. All major travel agencies have a package for day trips. Highlights along the way:
Zhinvali Reservoir, as The largest hydroelectric power station in the region has an amazing scenery. The lake surrounded by mountains and forests does not move like a huge round mirror.
Anna Nud Fortress, the cover of Lonely Planet, the castle of the 13th century Aragvi feudal dynasty, the important military fortress.
Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument, a monument built in 1983 to celebrate the bicentennial of the "Treaty of Georgievsk" and the friendship between the Soviet Georgia and the Soviet Union, and is also a famous ski resort. In the summer, you can see many people playing paragliding in the valley.
San Trinity Church, where you need to switch to a more powerful four-wheel drive off-road vehicle, because the ancient church, one of the most beautiful churches in the world, is located on the plateau at 2,170 meters above sea level, during the invasion of different periods in Georgia. The national treasure is hidden there because it is difficult to find, and now visitors can climb directly or take a walking tour in the local area.
Fees: If you are less than 4 people, it is more expensive. The cost of a 6-person business car is about 230 yuan/person (you will find a restaurant in the middle, without meals).
Time: Departure from the hotel in Tbilisi in the morning, the entire itinerary includes lunch time, and the hotel can be accommodated in Kazbek at approximately 4 pm.

The Kazbek Snow Mountain is located at the junction of Georgia and the North Ossetia region of Russia. It is the place where the Prometheus Pirates of the Greek legend was imprisoned by Zeus. It is 5047 meters above sea level and is part of the Caucasus Mountains. It is located in the upper part of the Caucasus Mountains. It is the third highest mountain in Georgia (the seventh highest in the entire Caucasus), and the entire area surrounded by snow mountains is also known as Kazbek.
Most of the visitors to Kazbek are to enjoy the style of the Gergeti Trinity church on the mountainside, at an altitude of 2,170 meters. Originally built in the 14th century, the church is a business-like landscape in Georgia.
When the weather is fine, it takes about 30 minutes to drive from the town below the mountain to the church. Of course, you can also walk up the mountain and take the hill from the village to the jungle for about 1 hour.
If it is winter uphill, even if it is a jungle trail, it takes 2-3 hours to go up the mountain. The snow on the hillside is over the knees. The place where it is stepped on has been frozen and it is easy to slip. It is very dangerous, especially down the mountain. .
Winter jungle trails are easy to get lost, so be sure to go downhill before dark. Many families in
Kazbek offer family hotel services, and there is also a need to mention Rooms Hotel Kazbegi. This hotel (the rectangular building below) has been selected as a world class hotel and is the best hotel in the Kazbek area. The scenery itself is excellent, and the interior decoration is extremely designal. If the travel budget is sufficient, consider it.

Compared to the Kazbek Mountain, the scenery along the steps of Stepantsminda surprised me. Take a bus from Tbilisi, the meandering stream flows through the mountains, the green grass on both sides of the creek is shaken by the wind, occasionally interspersed with the naturally formed glacier layer, used to live in Tbilisi. Excited, the scenery outside the window seems to have returned to Xinjiang.
There are two places on the way that are very interesting. One is the Friendship Monument between Russia and Georgia 2000 years ago. It is situated on the edge of a mountain cliff. The underground lake and the vast Caucasus Mountains are unobstructed and therefore attractive. A lot of paragliding enthusiasts are exploring this area.
雙喜與子琛.
Here is the Georgia-Russia Friendship Monument.
In 1991, the Soviet Union disintegrated, Georgia officially separated into a country, and Russia was only Russia.
In 2008, Georgia and Russia exchanged fire on the South Ossetia issue. The country has persisted for five days under the powerful military of Russia.
Today's Georgians are fully promoting English and reducing the use of Russian.
But this Georgia-Russia Friendship Monument is still well established here, and seems to remind people that these two countries have been like brothers. Obviously, when I saw someone above, the road was sealed. If I didn't go up, I had to take a photo on the mountainside with the snowy mountains as the background.
NIKI ZUO.
Although Kazbek has never snowed, but the altitude of more than a thousand plus the surrounding snow-capped mountains, the temperature here is not high.
The night before because the network was barely available to catch up with the morning, and the next day, I got up to the next day and got up.
Fortunately, the entire Kazbek only has a church on the top of the hill that needs to be visited. It doesn't matter if it is late.
This should be regarded as a relatively famous tourist resort in the country, but the life of the town is still not because of any changes in tourism, even signs of prosperity.
In 2008, the exchange of fire between Georgia and Russia on South Ossetia was in this area, not far from it. This is probably the reason for the lack of prosperity here.
Because there is no snow in a week, the snow on the mountain is almost the same, only the distant main peak can still see the trace of snow.
NIKI ZUO.
The yellow bricks of the church are very tasteful. When you look up from the bottom of the mountain, you feel sacred and close to it.
Orthodox church, everywhere is a cross.
Teaching, on the wall, maybe even on a brick.
The church in the sun, the traces of the vicissitudes of life. When I entered the interior, I didn't really walk into the interior, I didn't want to disturb the believers, and I didn't want to disturb their beliefs.
The densely populated houses in the mountains, this flat land has made a village.
Although it was pretty to see the houses at the foot of the mountain, it was no different from the matchbox at the top of the mountain. Some cars rushed down the mountain and rolled up a dust.
The slope of the mountain seems to me to be wrestling when people go down, not to mention the 80-foot car. Once again lamented the fierceness of the fighting nation. Looking at the railroad tracks on the mountain, probably this thing is in them, and they are used to it.
NIKI ZUO.
From the left hand side of Tbilisi to Kazbek, not far from Ananuri Castle, there is a piece of soil that is particularly colorless and does not stand around: there is a uniform green around, and that piece is yellow and white; Green land or low-lying plants, the piece of grass is not born, the spring water. That should be a piece of calcium carbonate, which is very strange and abrupt. The magic of nature is really not covered.
If you think there are too many people in Pamukkale and the amount of water is small, don't miss the beautiful miracle on the edge of the mountain.
timetrees.
The winding Caucasus Mountains are located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, from the northwest to the southeast. The Greater Caucasus Mountains are part of the dividing line between Asia and Europe. And among the barrier-like Caucasus Mountains, the rolling snow-capped mountains make countless tourists rush, and one of the important reasons is that it climbs well!
The mountain road has a broken ancient tower, which is a constant landscape. There is a clear spring in the mountains, and people can look at the thirst on the road.
Its not too steep, because its not too hard because of the beautiful scenery. Compared to the mountainous road hovering in the subtropical forests of China, the open snowy mountain scenery is definitely a popular route.
If you want to be more niche, continue on to the snowy mountains, but it will take at least a day to arrive. Carry a tent and cold protection equipment and come close to the snowy mountains.
