The Best Time to Visit and What to Bring to Rötefossen
Rötefossen is accessible year-round, but to see its most spectacular sights, aim for late May to early July. This period coincides with the melting snow in the Norwegian mountains, bringing the waterfall's flow to its peak. The power and scale of the water are astounding, and the mist blankets the surrounding area, creating a spectacular sight. Late fall and winter, on the other hand, see significantly less water and the weather become very cold, but the snowy landscape surrounding the falls offers another charm. While the waterfall is easily accessible, located right next to the national highway, the mist can make the ground very slippery. For safety, a waterproof jacket, waterproof pants, and non-slip shoes are essential. Because Rötefossen is located midway through a fjord tour, a typical #EuropeGuide itinerary is to visit early in the morning and then continue on to the next destination. Souvenir shops and cafes near the waterfall may only operate during peak season, so it's a good idea to prepare light drinks and snacks in advance.
