Do you think these check-in photos at Kumbum Monastery are good?
Walking in the Kumbum Monastery with more than 600 years of history, touching the scattered temples on the Lotus Mountain, appreciating the art of ancient architecture, and feeling the peace in the strong light and shadow. The lifelike butter flowers, vivid murals and colorful embroidery make up the 'Three Wonders of Kumbum Monastery Art', which are amazing and stoppable.
Kumbum Monastery has a history of more than 600 years and covers an area of more than 600 acres. The temple buildings are distributed on the slopes of Lotus Mountain, with the temples scattered high and low, reflecting each other. The Dajinwa Temple in the center of the temple, with green walls and golden tiles, is brilliant and is the main building of the temple. The Buddha statues in the temple are vivid and beautiful, and they are sacred. The lifelike butter flowers, colorful murals and colorful embroidery are known as the 'Three Wonders of Kumbum Monastery Art'. The temple also contains many Buddhist scriptures and academic classics in history, literature, philosophy, medicine, and legislation.

Kumbum Monastery
The monastery in Xining is swarming with worshipping monks, amongst beautiful temples, full of colour and life! The surrounding town is quiet and peaceful, and the entry into the monastery is quick and easy. You can spend hours wondering around this beautiful site, it really feels like you're in another country.
I would always highly recommend visiting this amazing place, to see a direct contrast between Chinese ans Tibetan inspired architecture. Arrive early to ensure a quiet experience.
You can see the gold guilded temple, colourful flags, amongst countless statues of religious figures. It really is a remarkable place.

The religious status of the Ta'er Temple:
Tal Temple is one of the six monasteries of the Chinese Buddhist Buddhism Gelugpa. It was first built in the 39th year of Ming Jiajing. It has been more than 400 years old! It is recommended to visit the Ta'er Temple to find a guide, listen to the explanation and not explain the different feelings of the night.
The entire temple is a magnificent and magnificent architectural complex composed of a number of temples, temples, stupas and shacks. The Ta'er Monastery is the first tower, and there is a temple, hence the name Ta'er Temple. The golden domes, linden trees and exquisite murals, piles of embroidered and butter flowers of the Ta'er Monastery can be shocking. Yuzi is a traveler who likes religious culture very much. He always feels that he can learn a lot of history while watching. So, if you are a guest of Xining, then the Ta'er Temple must be a stop for study.

Kumbum Monastery
Reaching this place was one of the most complicated information to find, but we made it 💪
From Xining, find a stop where you can grab the bus 909. The ride is around an hour and a half and costs 4rmb. Be sure to have the exact amount for both ways because they are not giving you back any change, and you are not given tickets that you might be able to use for the way back. Indeed, we got tricked as we thought the little invoice that you can grab would help us show that we already paid a return ticket as we had no change, and it was a hard task to convince the driver to let us through. Ride the bus until the end of the line, and then walk around 10 minutes to reach the temple. Once there, cross the plaza and look at the buildings on your left to buy tickets (it's not clearly indicated so follow the people with tickets to see where they come from). One ticjet costs 70rmb per person. Once inside, we got offered to do a private tour with a tibetan man (unofficial guide) and we decided to get on with him to get more insight and understanding. Well, let me tell you that we did not regret it.
Our guide explained to us a lot about the history of the temple, built by Tsongkhapa's mother, an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk who lived 700 years ago. He is the founder of the Tibetan Buddhism yellow hat school (or Gelug). He also the teacher of the first Dalaï Lama.
Apparently, the first temple was built by Tsongkhapa's mother because she was missing her son. She built the temple around a Buddha tree who is said to be alive in the pagoda, and on its leaves there are faces of the Buddha.
He is now seen as the second Buddha in the yellow hat tradition (the first one being Sakyamuni, also known as Siddhartha Gautama).
The place is home to hundreds of monks and 14 living Buddhas.
There's also a beautiful pagoda named the pagoda of peace that was built during WWII.
The most impressive room in the temples was the one of the Yak butter sculpture. It's very recent (2013) but is magnificent. The carving and painting inside the building are mesmerizing, and the sculptures made by monks are so detailed, one may wonder how it can possible to do that. The sculptures are kept behind windows, inside a refrigerated space as it would melt otherwise. We have been informed that every year, the designs change.
We also had the pleasure to admire well made embroideries and painting on several buildings, some having never been restored since they had been made (which is truly impressive as you can still see well).
Having a guide for this place was definitely a must, as Buddhism can be hard to understand, especially with the many different branches that exist.
It's a short trip, even though it's a been tedious to get there, it's definitely worth it if you have the time.
💰Average Price per Person: 70rmb/person
💞Reasons to Recommend: spiritual, important Tibetan temple
🚌How to Get There: from Xining, take the bus 909 🕰️Business Hours: 7.30 am - 6pm

Kumbum Monastery
📿Kumbum Monastery, also known as Ta'er Monastery, is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism in China. The founder of the Gelug sect, Tsongkhapa, was born in Huangzhong, Qinghai, and later went to Tibet to study and establish the Gelug sect. His mother, missing her son, built a pagoda, the "Julieta", at his birthplace in 1379 under the guidance of Tsongkhapa. This is the earliest building of Kumbum Monastery.
🌟The artistic treasures of Kumbum Monastery are mainly reflected in butter sculptures, murals, and embroidery, known as the "three unique arts of Kumbum Monastery":
1️⃣Butter sculptures are lifelike and colorful, and are important exhibits in the annual Buddhist activities of Kumbum Monastery. Each work is breathtaking and shocking!
2️⃣Most of the murals are painted on curtains, and some are directly painted on walls and beams. The content is mostly derived from Buddhist stories and religious life, with bright colors that do not change over time. 3️⃣Embroidery is one of the unique Tibetan arts created by Kumbum Monastery. Various brightly colored silks are cut into various images of Buddhas, characters, flowers, birds, and beasts, and then filled with wool or cotton, embroidered on curtains, with clear layers and lifelike.
🪷Kumbum Monastery is also the highest institution of the Qinghai Provincial Buddhist Academy, with four major colleges: Xianzong, Mizong, Astronomy, and Medicine, which have made important contributions to the training of Tibetan intellectuals and religious talents.
As one of the important monasteries of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism, Kumbum Monastery not only witnessed the development of Tibetan Buddhism in Qinghai, but also carried a wealth of historical and cultural heritage and the footprints of religious leaders. These historical events together constitute the unique cultural charm and historical value of Kumbum Monastery.

September Hotel Test Sleeper - Ta'er Monastery: 400 Years of History, Suitable for Any Time and Occasion.
Ta'er Monastery, with a history of over 400 years, is one of the most important monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, also known as the Yellow Hat sect. It is also the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school.
Unlike mainland Chinese Buddhist temples, Ta'er Monastery's architectural layout is not symmetrical along a central axis. Instead, it is a complex of ancient buildings including numerous halls, scripture halls, stupas, and academies, irregularly distributed on a small hill.
The Golden Roofed Hall is the center of the entire complex. Legend has it that Tsongkhapa was born here, and a bodhi tree grew from the spot where his umbilical blood dropped. Later, a stupa was built around the tree, and a monastery was constructed, giving Ta'er Monastery its name.
Ta'er Monastery is renowned for its three wonders: butter sculptures, murals, and appliqué embroidery.
Butter sculptures are made from butter mixed with various pigments, sculpted into various Buddha images, figures, birds, animals, and pavilions. The Butter Sculpture Hall showcases exquisite butter sculptures. The main halls, corridors, and front porches of the monastery feature many vibrant murals that are hundreds of years old. Appliqué embroidery involves cutting various shapes, such as Buddha images and animals, from different colored silks, stuffing them with wool or cotton, and then sewing them onto fabric. In the main scripture hall, two national treasure-level large appliqué embroideries, 'The Sixteen Arhats Showing Their Supernatural Powers' and 'The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea,' are hung on both sides.

To cleanse the soul, one must visit Ta'er Monastery in this lifetime
Ta'er Monastery, serene atop the plateau, with red walls and golden tiles reflecting the blue sky. Every brick and tile tells a story of a thousand years, and in the scent of butter lamps lies deep and persistent faith. As you stroll through, your soul feels washed, and worldly troubles dissipate with the wind.
The shadows of the pagodas sway, and the Buddha's light shines everywhere. I seem to hear the ancient chanting, traversing the tunnel of time, conversing with the soul. Ta'er Monastery, you are the pure land of the soul, allowing me to find a place of peace in this troubled world, to comprehend the true meaning of life, and to have a mind as clear as a mirror, pure and bright.

Wedding Photo Tour: Roaming Qinghai
#familytravel
The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is the largest in China, with an average altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level.
The famous Himalayas with their highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, are part of this highlands.
The pastures of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau are rich in low but nutritious grasses, as the climate of this area is characterized by a large number of sunny days.
Large herds of cows, yaks, sheep, Tibetan sheep and other animals freely graze in the valleys of the highlands.
The vastness, the eternally snow—covered mountain peaks, the beauty of the landscape, the peacefully grazing herds - all this makes Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau the most beautiful place on Earth.
💞Such ideal place is a great option for wedding travel and photo. Wedding photo tour is an wonderful idea, positive emotions and unforgettable memories are guaranteed.
We took our family trip to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in July when whether is most suitable for such kind of trip, the average air temperature is +15...+21 °C. The primary idea was to make unique shots and catch our happiness on a pictures.
Qinghai Province is quite large, so it is difficult for travelers to explore these regions in one visit. Here are some places that you should pay attention to during your trip:
Kumbum Monastery. One of the most important Buddhist monasteries located outside Tibet is located near the Qinghai capital of Xining.
Qinghai Lake. The largest lake in China and one of the largest salt lakes in Asia. Here you can also watch the birds, flocks of which flock to the reservoir, which is why these places are called "bird island".
Qilian Mountains. Here you can admire the snow-capped mountain peaks and enjoy the unspoilt natural landscapes
Salt Lake Chaika. The "Heavenly Mirror" (as this lake is called) is visited annually by a large number of tourists.
There are oil and gas fields in the Kaidam basin, but you can admire the untouched wildlife there.
This place is the place where every step brings an opportunity to make amazing pictures!

I'm back from the Qinghai-Tibet line
I'm back from the Qinghai-Tibet line
Beauty is indeed beautiful, but the exhaustion is real too. I can't handle this kind of loop travel in a short time; it's too tiring. The guide even said that our trip was considered a leisure tour, my goodness. It was a total of 7 days, getting up before 6:30 every morning, and not returning to the hotel until after 9 pm. Thankfully, we had a tour bus to catch some sleep on, otherwise, I don't think I could have made it.
Upon arriving in Lanzhou, the traffic in the city was truly incomprehensible, and the sunset in the northwest is really late, which was a shock to me as a Southerner. At 9 pm, the streets were still bustling, making it seem like you could do a lot in one day (where I'm from, there's not even a shadow on the streets by 8 pm).
The second day we went to the Ta'er Monastery, which was quite beautiful. I got a slight sense of their faith, just visiting. After a 3-hour drive in the afternoon? we arrived at Qinghai Lake. It was still sunny when we got there, but suddenly it started thundering while we were taking pictures, and then it hailed. And walking in the hail for 10 minutes to get on the bus? Thankfully I wore a hardshell jacket, which I must say was quite effective (not an ad). You must bring a hardshell jacket when you go to the northwest! It's both photo-worthy and windproof! We stayed at a newly opened hotel by Qinghai Lake that night, which I think was the most upscale hotel of the week. You could see the sunrise and sunset just by stepping outside, though the breakfast wasn't great. Despite vomiting and having diarrhea at three in the morning due to altitude sickness, I still got up at 6 am to watch the sunrise. It's really convenient to see the sunrise just outside the hotel!
The third day we went to the Chaka Salt Lake, which I think is the most worthwhile place to visit on this trip! Of course, it's the Chaka Salt Lake with good weather. It's too beautiful, too beautiful, too beautiful! The beauty is indescribable, and even with altitude sickness, it's a place I would want to visit again, but the weather must be good!!! It's really photogenic, and you have to see it with your own eyes! The weather must be good. It was nice when we went, but the weather turned gloomy before we even left the scenic area, and it wasn't as beautiful as on a sunny day.
The fourth day we went to the Emerald Lake, but the weather wasn't great. So it didn't feel as stunning as the Chaka Salt Lake, and Emerald Lake is more suited for drones. From the height of a drone, you can see the different colors of the lakes, but with the naked eye, it's just so-so! Mainly because the weather was bad.
The fifth day was Dunhuang. In the morning, we went to the Mogao Caves. The first two short films were quite shocking to me. The first one was a general introduction to the history of the Mogao Caves, and the second was a spherical screen, which gave a direct experience of the charm inside the Mogao Caves. It was more impressive and more shocking than I imagined, really a place worth visiting multiple times. You must buy tickets in advance, and it's best to come during the off-season. I came in mid-May and felt it was already too crowded. The cultural and creative products here are quite expensive; I bought a fridge magnet. In the afternoon, I went to the Mingsha Mountain and rode a camel for 100 yuan, which was a 40-minute ride, not too expensive, and worth experiencing. I have to say, climbing the Mingsha Mountain is really tough, you have to climb hard without looking back, or you might not be able to move. I went during a sandstorm, so the sky looked grey and hazy, so it wasn't that surprising. Anyway, I just sat on the mountain, spaced out for a bit, enjoyed the wind, and then came down.

Northwest Grand Loop Qinghai Xining Edition
Many sisters left a lot of suggestions in the comments on the previous article about Ta'er Monastery.
I packed my luggage and prepared items and clothes according to what they said. The most frequent advice was to bring sunscreen! Body lotion! Clothes for all seasons! I just arrived in Xining this afternoon after 2 PM.
It really confirmed what the sisters said! The sun is so intense! The sun on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is really fierce! The ultraviolet rays are so strong that I couldn't even recognize the letter 'm'! It only got dark around 9 PM in Xining, so the daylight hours are very long.
After arriving, I took advantage of the travel agency's free airport pickup service and was taken to the hotel. We are staying near the train station in Chengdong District.
You can get a very nice place for just over 100 RMB per person, and there are many options.
The area is extremely dry!! You can ask the hotel if they have a humidifier!
In the afternoon, we went to Ta'er Monastery for a visit. It's about 150 RMB to go there and back by taxi from the city center, which is a bit far, but the weather was good today, and the photos turned out great~ We learned about Tibetan Buddhism culture and local customs.
In the evening, we went to eat the lamb skewers that everyone recommended, only 3 RMB per skewer, which is quite a bargain!
Not gamey at all! I ate countless skewers non-stop by myself! The grilled lamb chops and lamb skewers are both amazing! I love the Northwest
