Moriaki Ryokan in Ikaho Onsen, Gunma
I stayed at the Moriaki Ryokan in Ikaho Onsen, Gunma last summer. The ryokan is located near the stone steps of Ikaho Onsen and is quite large. The room had a small garden, and I really liked the view from the window.
The food was also very delicious, and I enjoyed the ryokan's meals. The meat was especially tender and tasty, and I had multiple servings of rice, haha.
There is an old-fashioned stone step street nearby, where you can enjoy sightseeing. I enjoyed the Japanese summer by eating tamakonnyaku and ramune.
Although Gunma Prefecture is close to the metropolitan area, you need to take a bus from the station, so the travel by public transportation was long.
[Gunma Prefecture🇯🇵Ikaho Onsen] Tourist spots and specialties😊
#FuriTabi
I went to Ikaho Onsen in Gunma Prefecture☺️
It takes about 3.5 hours by highway bus from Tokyo Station.
It was very convenient because the bus terminal is at the entrance to Ikaho Onsen.
Ikaho Onsen is famous for its stone steps.
There are 365 steps.
If you want to climb the stone steps, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
At the top of the stone steps is Ikaho Shrine⛩️
It is said to be a power spot, and is also famous for its benefits in praying for children, safe childbirth, and matchmaking☺️
If you go further in, you will find the Ikaho Onsen drinking fountain where you can drink the hot spring water.
It had a very unique taste🥹
Below Ikaho Shrine is the famous Katsugetsudo☺️
This is the birthplace of onsen manju.
This popular store was founded in the Meiji era. It was delicious♪
And this time, for lunch, I enjoyed Mizusawa udon at Osawaya, which is located halfway up the stone steps😋
It was chewy and very delicious.
I also took the ropeway🚡 and visited the memorial museum.
It's not a very big hot spring town, but the air is clean, the food is delicious, and I was able to refresh myself.
The quality of the spring water was also good♪

[Gunma🐴] Just like Taiwan! The filming location for the movie Kingdom!
#0yentravel
Tourist spots other than the hot springs in Ikaho, Gunma Prefecture✨
[Bukkou-san Hosui-ji Temple]🏮
This is apparently the location where the hugely popular movie "KINGDOM" was shot😆
I was lost in the thought that Yamazaki Kento and his friends had also visited here while I was walking around! lol
The large temple that stands at the top of a long staircase is a temple in Taiwan, so it feels like you're overseas, and the view from there is indescribably beautiful, and you can feel like you're the main character of Kingdom😆💓
You can worship, there's a cafe inside, and spend your time freely🙌🏻
It seems you can even experience becoming a monk!! 👩🏻🦲
It's very hot at this time of year, so the stairs are tough, but you can drive up to a certain point, so it was easy😊
If you go to Ikaho, this is a spot you should definitely visit✨

It is a famous shop of Mizusawa Udon. The head office is in front of the gate of Mizusawa Kannon, and this is a branch. Mizusawa udon is one of the three major udon in Japan, and it has a chewy texture that goes down easily and is delicious. Udon, soup and tempura are all delicious.
I think that it is a good shop with a good location almost in the middle of the stone steps, a beautiful interior, etc. Definitely recommended 👍

Ikaho Stone Steps - We walked the 365 steps to the top. Fun gift shops, sweets, and restaurants along the way. Even carnival game shops on the way. Half way up is a onsen foot bath for free. Make it to the top to see the shrine. After climbing the 365 stone steps, there is Ikaho Shrine, and if you go further, you will find an open-air bath and a red arched bridge called Kajika Bridge.

[Gunma♨️] After the hot springs, enjoy skating in Ikaho⛸️
#0yentravelFebruary2025
I took the Ikaho Ropeway and went to the Ikaho Ice Rink to go ice skating⛸️❄️
There are huge ice rinks, indoors and outdoors, and it seems that the training athletes also practice here👏🏻
On the day I visited, only the indoor rink was open, but many people came to play⛄️
I bought a ticket to use the rink and a shoe rental ticket, and enjoyed skating for the first time in a long time😆
I learned a little bit when I was a child, so I'm pretty good at skating, and it was so much fun that if I kept skating, the time would fly by✨
It's also popular with families with children, and there was a support platform for children and people who can't skate!
I used muscles that I don't usually use, so I got severe muscle pain! 💪
But it's still fun, so it's a play spot that I recommend you visit when you're traveling to Ikaho☺️

Ikaho Onsen's specialty! 365 stone steps
[Ikaho Onsen Stone Steps Street]
This is a famous stone staircase with a history of over 400 years.
We were blessed with good weather and the snowy scenery was beautiful, so we climbed up to the shrine at the top 🚶♀️
Along the way, there are foot baths, shooting ranges, and stone statues with history written on them.
It was a great mix of old-fashioned shops where you can eat Mizusawa udon and new shops where you can eat trendy sweets, making it perfect for eating around.
I'll post about what we ate in another post ✨
Even if you don't climb to the top, you can see the wonderful scenery surrounded by beautiful mountains ☺️
There are several municipal parking lots nearby, but they often fill up on weekends.
If you wait, the turnover seems to be quick, so it was no problem to come by car! 📍Address: Ikaho-cho, Shibukawa-shi, Gunma-ken 377-0102

Ikaho Onsen's famous food tours
[Stone Steps Tama Konnyaku]
As soon as I started climbing the stone steps, I found a shop with a particularly noticeable crowd.
As my first foodie, I bought Tama Konnyaku for ¥200.
The plump and glossy texture, well-cooked saltiness, and the mustard accent go really well together.
As I slowly stuffed my mouth in front of the shop, I saw some repeat customers on the way there and back☺️
I'd like to come back to eat here again when I visit Ikaho Onsen. It was a dish that satisfied both my stomach and my heart✨

A relaxing time spent at Ikaho Shrine. A place where nature and history come alive.
Ikaho Shrine is a historic shrine located near Ikaho Onsen.
It was founded about 1,400 years ago and has been loved by local people for many years.
The shrine's deity is Oyamatsumi-no-Mikoto,
a mountain god with a deep connection to nature.
The shrine is close to the hot spring town,
so you can relax in the hot springs and then enjoy a quiet visit to the shrine.
The grounds are surrounded by nature and the views are amazing.
The shrine also has a symbolic hot spring spot called "Yunohana no Michi",
where you can feel the history and deep meaning of the hot springs while walking, which is appealing.
The sacred tree standing in the grounds is also impressive,
and spending time here will make you feel very sacred.
Ikaho Shrine is not just a tourist spot,
but a place where nature and history are interwoven,
a spot where you can refresh your heart and soul.
Soak in the hot springs, calm your mind, and spend some quiet time at the shrine.
Highly recommended for those who want to spend such a luxurious time✨

Perfect for Golden Week trips ♨️ Ikaho Onsen
Head to Ikaho Onsen, a famous hot spring in Gunma Prefecture. A journey to relax in the elegant scenery of the stone steps and the shining golden "Golden Hot Springs".
The atmosphere of the stone steps
The "Stone Steps" street, the symbol of Ikaho, has 365 steps. On both sides are lined with souvenir shops, shooting ranges, and long-established inns, so you can enjoy the atmosphere of the hot spring town just by walking. The hot and sweet hot spring manju that I drank along the way was irresistible.
Soaking in the Golden Hot Springs
There are two types of hot springs at Ikaho Onsen: "Golden Hot Springs" and "Silver Hot Springs". This time, we went to the historic "Golden Hot Springs". The brown water containing iron warms the body from the inside and moisturizes the skin. After the bath, take a break with "Yu no Hana Manju" and milk.
Ikaho Ropeway and a spectacular view
Take the Ikaho Ropeway to Miharashi Station, which is 932 meters above sea level. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Mount Haruna and Mount Akagi. It's even more beautiful in the autumn foliage season.
Finish with Mizusawa Udon
On the way back, enjoy the specialty "Mizusawa Udon". The chewy udon is served with sesame sauce or soy sauce. The simple yet deep flavor is very satisfying.
Access
There are two main ways to get to Ikaho Onsen from Tokyo:
①Train + Bus
• About 2 hours from JR Joetsu Line "Shibukawa Station" (about 1 hour 50 minutes from Ueno Station using the Kusatsu-Shima Express)
