🏠Hatoyama Hall
💞Reasons for recommendation: Hatoyama Hall, with its English-style garden where roses and hydrangeas bloom in every season and a pond where Nishikigoi swim, still retains the essence of the ideal life and lifestyle with art collections that Japanese people aspire to.
The beautiful Western-style house of the Hatoyama family appeared on the Otowa Hill in Bunkyo Ward in 1924, the year after the Great Kanto Earthquake.
The Hatoyama family has produced and raised four generations of leading politicians, including Kazuo (1856-1911), who was a member of the House of Representatives; Ichiro (1883-1959), who became Prime Minister; Iichiro (1918-1993), who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Yukio (born 1947) and Kunio (born 1948), who were also members of the House of Representatives.
Ichiro built this Western-style building, which was the stage for the founding of the Liberal Party (now the Liberal Democratic Party), a turning point in postwar politics, and also the preparations for the restoration of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Soviet Union, which he decided to do as prime minister.
The building was designed by Ichiro's friend, Shinichiro Okada (1883-1932), known as one of the leading architects of the Taisho and early Showa periods.』
