The 'Million Collection' exhibition, a collective memory of Hangzhou people
The 'Million Collection' exhibition at the Hangzhou Museum once dominated the old friends' circle. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Hangzhou's liberation, it reflects the arduous journey and the spirit of forging ahead.
How should a museum, which collects the essence of a city, use its treasured old items to tell the story of Hangzhou's urban transformation and recall those passionate collective memories?
'Paradise of Dreams' Hangzhou, home to three World Heritage sites: West Lake (2011), the Grand Canal (2014), and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City (2019). However, the highlight of this exhibition is the collective memory of everyday life and the vibrant youthful years of struggle.
The Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station is the first large-scale hydropower station independently built by New China and the first dam over 100 meters high in the country, known as the 'experimental field of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.'
Since the 1960s, the people of Hangzhou have reclaimed 520,000 acres of land from the sea in Xiaoshan over more than 30 years, praised by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as a 'miracle of land reclamation from the sea,' showcasing the hardworking spirit of the people of Hangzhou.
In 2005, Xixi National Wetland Park opened, becoming the first national wetland park in the country. In 2016, the 'Five Waters Co-governance' achieved phased results, with clear waters and green shores once again visible. For environmental protection, most major attractions no longer use paper tickets, and the iconic Hangzhou elements and era-specific designs are truly delightful!
From the second West Lake Expo in 2000, the first China International Animation Festival in 2005, the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) SME Summit in 2009, to the G20 Hangzhou Summit in 2016 and the 19th Asian Games in 2023, Hangzhou has gradually stepped onto the world stage, stunning the world time and again!
Every item is a tribute to the past years, every scene has touching stories, and it is also a heritage of the Hangzhou spirit. I love the chapter 'The Era Calls,' where young children with big dreams enter the big classroom of society, instantly bringing back memories of that passionate era and those tender years.
Having lived in Hangzhou for years, I have personally experienced the city's transformation and development. Even as a 'spiritual Hangzhou person,' I have gained a more affectionate perspective. I absolutely love the Hangzhou dialect fridge magnets and have picked up many interesting Hangzhou dialect phrases.
Jiegun: Very powerful; Lingqing: Smart, clever
Youhuatou: Interesting, distinctive, highlights
Maolaisai: Impressive, reliable, looks fierce
Daqidaba: Chatting, idle talk
Guainounou: Cute, well-behaved children
Popular check-in spots:
The steel sofa and bathhouse of Hangzhou Steel, the octagonal pavilion of the West Lake State Guesthouse where Nixon visited China, Mingzhu Theater, bus 121, the moon-landing rocket at the Children's Palace, and the cultural and creative counter at Jiebai.

Hangzhou Summer Citywalk | Wandering around Wushan, even the most classic route has its surprises
It's best not to drive to climb Wushan, taking the bus or subway is the best mode of transportation. There are many bus stops near Drum Tower and Qinghefang where you can walk to the mountain's alleys, I took the subway to Jiangcheng Road and then walked to Shiwukuixiang. There is an alley called Xiaoxia Nong, I like to climb the mountain from this alley because it's the quickest way to reach the legendary best spot for viewing (Wangxian Pavilion) (Picture 2)
The Citywalk route this time is also quite simple, mainly because after the Grain in Ear, the weather starts to get hot and humid, and during the day you need to walk on roads with more shade (century-old camphor trees can be seen everywhere on Wugong Mountain). The walking route is as follows: climb up the mountain from Xiaoxia Nong — pass by the teahouse — arrive at Chenghuang Temple (entrance fee, optional) — descend from the parking lot to Hangzhou Museum — Dajing Lane.
What surprised me was the exhibition at Hangzhou Museum (South Hall). Although after seeing the Zhejiang Museum, you might feel that the exhibits here are not as dazzling, the Warring States crystal cup is the treasure of this museum (Picture), among them, the special exhibition 'A Million Collections - A Museum Collects a City' is very interesting, recording the changes in Hangzhou from 1949-2024, full of the sense of the times and childhood memories.
Finally, I went to Dajing Lane and wanted to find a coffee shop to sit down, but ended up sitting by the roadside drinking a cup of homesick Duck Shit Aroma Frozen Lemon Tea. Dajing Lane is a peaceful place amidst the hustle and bustle, and it also hides some small exhibitions, such as 'This Moment in Time - Dunhuang Murals Feitian Special Exhibition', small and exquisite, just like the hidden shops here, requiring time to slowly savor.
It's been a long time since I took a bus. In this season of alternating cool and hot weather, sitting on the bus swaying to the destination, casually observing the people and events of this city, is the most cost-effective way to relax. Finally, on the way home, I kept muttering about the 'baked sesame seed cake' that I wanted to eat but didn't, and miraculously, it appeared at the entrance of my community. Thus, today's outing was also perfect.
It's not that the attractions with entrance fees are unaffordable,
but the free attractions offer better value for money!
Free attractions are not inferior to the ones with fees,
saving on tickets💰, accommodation, food and drink, it's so delightful!!!

Hangzhou Museum, where the artifacts on paper come to life in three dimensions!!!
Hangzhou Museum, where the artifacts on paper come to life in three dimensions!!!
Location: Hangzhou Museum
Time: Wednesday-Monday 9:00-16:30
I had some free time a few days ago and just happened to check in at the Hangzhou Museum.
I just caught the exhibition of 'Wuhua Tianbao'.
What impressed me the most was the 'Horseback Cup'. Listening to the guide's introduction, you can tell this is a white-glazed cup tied to a horse, and if you look closely, you can see a dragon pattern imprinted on the inner wall. The aesthetic in Chinese culture is truly stunning; the smooth shape and subtle colors of the cup make it easy to imagine the days of a young man admiring the flowers while riding his horse.
Facing the pink sticker, I found the Jingdezhen kiln blue and white porcelain pen holder in the shape of Hai'ao Mountain, featuring the giant turtle from Chinese mythology, symbolizing authority. It reminded me of the idiom 'to stand out among one's peers', and the historical traces are long and profound. I'm really growing fonder of Chinese history and culture, so rich and interesting!!!
🌸P1 is all the exhibitions currently on display in the museum!!!
🌿P6 is all the current chapters inside the Hangzhou Museum!!! Sisters who want to collect stamps, don't miss out!!!

Visiting Hangzhou is not only about touring the West Lake, but you can also stroll through the old streets of Hangzhou.
The city walk route I'm sharing today conceals half of Hangzhou's history, taking three to four hours to complete on foot. It allows you to experience the leisurely life of the old Hangzhou residents and to check in for an elegant walk with the charm of the Southern Song Dynasty.
【My Route🚶♀️】
Drum Tower—Southern Song Study—Dajing Lane—Huan Cui Building—Wu Mountain—Hangzhou Museum
1⃣️Drum Tower🏭
Here you can find the Drum Tower cultural district, Southern Song Study, a Christian church⛪️, and along the old streets and alleys, you can feel a different kind of livelihood in Hangzhou.
2⃣️Dajing Lane🏘
A small alley filled with various quaint and atmospheric coffee shops☕️ and restaurants, with lush green trees and vibrant greenery, very suitable for enjoying tea and scenery.
3⃣️Huan Cui Building
As the name suggests, a pavilion surrounded by greenery, serene and elegant, also featuring a novel handicraft market🪆.
4⃣️Wu Mountain🌲
Navigate to Wu Mountain Jiyi Pavilion, where you can see a tropical rainforest-like 🌲 canopy of greenery, and the distant City God Pavilion, which is very impressive.
Navigate to the White Snake's Flight, which is an extra stretch of green-shaded winding path🍃.
5⃣️Hangzhou Museum🍶
A comprehensive humanities museum that reflects the historical changes of Hangzhou, where you can also get a retro souvenir ticket stub.
The entire route has both the bustling city life and the quiet and elegant secret spots, with towering ancient trees🌲 and lush greenery along the way.
This hike was organized by the 4th Hangzhou Citizens' Day City Walk event, and we were even invited to stroll with Director Jiang Qingqing, an expert in Southern Song Dynasty history! Strolling and learning about culture at the same time is just too wonderful~

Hangzhou Museum 🗺️
#hangzhoutrip
My visit to the Hangzhou Museum was a captivating journey through the rich history and culture of this enchanting city. Located in West Lake Cultural Square, the museum's modern architectural design beautifully complements its surroundings.
The museum's extensive collection showcases Hangzhou's heritage, from ancient artifacts to contemporary art. I was particularly drawn to the exhibits highlighting the city's role as a hub of silk production and its deep-rooted tea culture.
The museum's interactive displays and multimedia presentations added depth and engagement to the experience. The rooftop garden, offering panoramic views of West Lake, was a serene escape amidst the urban landscape.
The Hangzhou Museum is a must-visit for anyone exploring this historic city, providing valuable insights into its past and present. It left me with a profound appreciation for Hangzhou's cultural richness and timeless charm. #ukcreator #hangzhou #china
