Located at an entrance to the busy Shibuya Station, the Hachiko Statue was built to commemorate the Japanese Akita dog remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner. Day after day Hachiko would dutifully wait until his owner returned. Even after the owner died unexpectedly from illness, Hachiko continued to wait just as he had before, no matter the day or the weather. In April, 1934, a bronze statue was erected in front of Shibuya Station. Later, the story of Hachiko was made into a movie and the site of the statue, which is now called "Hachiko Exit," has become a well-known landmark and meeting point.
