Reasons to Stay Overnight in Kazbegi, Georgia, and How to Get There
Kazbegi, a destination you can visit on a day trip from Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, is highly recommended for an overnight stay! Why? Because you can witness an incredibly beautiful starry sky that you’ve likely never seen before! ✨✨
At night, you can enjoy wine or beer on the terrace while gazing at the stars, and in the morning, wake up early for a refreshing walk amidst the stunning natural surroundings. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?
Additionally, accommodation costs are quite reasonable. The cottage I stayed in was around 15,000 yen. Considering it’s a whole cottage rental for two people, it’s affordable, and if you’re traveling with a group, the cost per person becomes even cheaper.

If you’re traveling from Tbilisi to Kazbegi without joining a tour, you can use a marshrutka (a type of minibus), a shared van, or a private van. The cheapest option is the marshrutka. Head to Tbilisi’s Didube Bus Station and look for a marshrutka heading to Kazbegi. While taxi drivers may aggressively offer their services, inquire about prices and find a van costing 15 GEL.
⚠️ Marshrutkas resemble vans, so it might be a bit challenging to distinguish them. Also, marshrutkas don’t stop at tourist spots (such as churches or monuments) along the way. If you want to visit such places, joining a tour is recommended.
For those not accustomed to traveling, finding a marshrutka might be slightly confusing, but once you’re on board, you just need to sit back and enjoy the ride. While Kazbegi has relatively few attractions, a half-day visit might suffice, but it would be a missed opportunity! Be sure to stay overnight and fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking nature of Kazbegi. 🧚
