A 48-hour trip to New York City was truly magical. From the moment I set foot in the concrete jungle, I was captivated by the city's relentless energy and iconic skyline. The first day began with a sunrise walk in Central Park, starting from The Lotte New York Palace. The morning light filtered through the autumn leaves, creating a golden canopy. This peaceful oasis in the bustling city was the perfect contrast to start my journey. By noon, I was gazing down at the sprawling metropolis from the top of the Empire State Building. The panoramic view was breathtaking - tiny yellow taxis flowed along the grid-like streets, and skyscrapers reached for the clouds. In the evening, I arrived at Times Square. The dazzling lights and vibrant crowds created an electric atmosphere. I was lucky enough to score last-minute tickets to a Broadway show and experienced the magic of live theater in one of the most famous venues. The second day began with a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty. The statue stood proudly against the morning sky. The historical significance of Ellis Island was deeply moving, with stories of hope and new beginnings etched into its walls. Lunch in Little Italy transported me straight to Naples with its authentic flavors, and the afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art overwhelmed my senses with centuries of human creativity and expression. On the final evening, the Brooklyn Bridge provided the perfect vantage point to bid farewell to this extraordinary city as the sun set. The illuminated Manhattan skyline against the darkening sky seemed to promise future adventures. Two days were not enough to scratch the surface of New York, but it was enough to leave an indelible mark on my heart.

I went to New York in mid-February. First, the 9/11 Memorial. I was reminded of the sacrifices of many people and the dedication of many brave people. I bought tickets to the USS Intrepid, the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty all together with City pass, which was a little cheaper. All of the planned visit times require advance reservations, but they were all open at this time of year. The temperature is the same as Sapporo, so it's cold to walk outside, but it gets hot as soon as you go inside the building, so it's hard to control your body temperature. Since I was traveling alone, I walked around. It was an 8-night trip that included Trump Tower, Tiffany's flagship store (very beautiful after renovation), the United Nations Headquarters, Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center Building, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of Natural History, and Chelsea Market. I left New York for a while and entered Canada on the long-distance bus Greyhound, and saw Niagara Falls. At night, I took Greyhound back to New York, and it's a place you should definitely visit if you visit New York. The sheer force of the water that seems to swallow you up gives you a glimpse of the earth's pulsating motion. Greyhound is the cheapest way to get from New York to Niagara, but by sleeping in the car on both the way there and back, I was able to get there in a flash without spending a night in Canada. It's great value for money, but only recommended for those with plenty of stamina. Outside, it's colder than New York, and it's an icy world. I can't spend much time outside, so I take a break and try my luck at the 24-hour hotel casino (free drinks). I flew with JAL. 70% of the seats on the latest A350-1000 are economy class or higher. Economy class has a wider seat pitch and is more comfortable, but the engine noise is quieter on the B787. There is plenty of entertainment and it's comfortable. It was a great trip to New York, like a movie world, and the impressive Niagara Falls.

#bucketlistreboot Construction of the Empire State Building begins on March 17, 1930. Occupying a central spot on Fifth Avenue, it is to be the world’s first 100+ story building. This one building that appears on postcards, in movies and features in many documentaries as a feat of engineering for its time, had to be visited. This is where the 1933 “King Kong” putting the Empire State Building front-and-centre for one of cinema’s most famous films. As it turns out, there are many skyscrapers in New York but only one has this prime position with a 360 view deck for tourists. The view encompassed some of the greatest landmarks and buildings on Manhattan Island but also you could see far enough to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Although not sure if it’s understandable from the photos, but the sunny part of the observation deck was manageable in terms of temperature, as soon as you went on the shady side it was the North Pole. So cold, you had to put your scarf and gloves. Hence most of our photos were taken from the sunny side of the deck.
