Glico light sign 🇯🇵
The Glico LED sign is not only a sign that indicates the popularity of the famous snack brand Glico, but it is also one of the most important landmarks in Osaka. The Glico LED sign was first built in 1953 and is located at Ebisubashi Bridge, a small bridge connecting Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi, a popular shopping district in Osaka. Throughout the years, the Glico sign has been redesigned to be unique and beautiful, until we get to the Glico sign we see today, which is now in its sixth generation. It still features the iconic Glico runner, but adds a colorful red circle symbol of Japan behind the runner, and replaces neon lights with LED lights that save many times more energy. This 6th generation sign is made up of 140,000 LED lights. The switch to LED lights is also intended to honor the three Japanese scientists who won the Nobel Prize for inventing the blue LED light bulb, an energy-saving and environmentally friendly innovation. The sign is 10.38 meters wide and 20 meters high. When night falls, the background light of the young runner is turned on, projecting various moving images, including images of Osaka’s important tourist attractions, images of the brand’s new products falling down on the runners, etc. As a snack brand loved by people all over the world, the creativity in creating the sign and the location where the sign is located are a perfect combination, making the Glico LED sign popular with tourists who stop by to take pictures with it. It has been recognized as a landmark that anyone visiting Osaka should not miss visiting and taking pictures of as a souvenir.
