The fortresses were built by different people over the centuries, like the Romans, the Savoy, and even Napoleon. Some of them are on top of mountains, like Fort Bard, which is an amazing sight. Other fortresses are in the valleys, like the ones in Saint-Vincent and Châtillon. They have beautiful gardens and spas, and you can relax and enjoy the view of the Alps. Getting There - there are 2 ways getting there, by car or by bus, I went with my car as the bus it's not every day and also only 2 times per day Attractions - the lake is very beautiful, there's also the museum where you can find the typical dogs there Hotels - there's one or 2 hotels Food & Restaurants - few restaurants around, haven't checked properly Shopping - there are small shops where you can buy souvenirs there are few hikes around there, very easy so everyone can do, the view is amazing especially behind the statue of saints, you can see the complete valley under the mountains. on the way there are some shops where you can buy typical food. #summervacation #nationalpark #naturalwonders

the aosta Valley is a beautiful part of northern Italy that is great to travel, In the winter we visited Pila to ski which boasted great facilities and friendly staff, it was connected by a gondola to the beautiful town of aosta, which boasted a historic cobbled centre with a huge central roman ruins, from here the ski resorts of courmayeur and la thuile are only in touching distance, there was fantastic pizza and great drinks to be had (I recommend 'red' Peroni) which is far nicer than what is sold in the UK. with the gondola which is operating from 8-5 it is possible to ski and to visit the town in one day, with buses running later during the peak season.

I personally can not think of a better way to spend beginning of the new year than a weeks skiing in Italy, these photos where taken in the Espace san Bernardo ski resort, a large ski area that has a wide range of runs for all skill levels over the French/ Italian border. I stayed in a village called la Thuile which is the Italian side of the ski area. La thuile its self is a charming village with a wide range of restaurants (mostly at a very affordable price!) that offer great Italian food.

Here, I not only witnessed the wonders of nature, but also experienced the unique charm of hiking. I. Food Recommendations Food is an indispensable part of hiking in Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso. Here, I tasted many unforgettable local delicacies. Rural Winery: Exploring a local rural winery is a rare experience. The Royal Castle of Sarre: home of the Savoy family The castle stands on a promontory in Lalex, which overlooks the Aosta flatland above the national road for Mont Blanc, immediately after the junction for Cogne, surrounded by grape vines down its hill. Built in 1710 on the ruins of a fortress mentioned as early as 1242, having passed through various hands, the property was purchased by the King of Italy Victor Emanuel II, who renovated it and used it during hunting expeditions in Val d’Aosta. The royal castle of Sarre, after becoming the private property of the King, was used as his headquarters for expeditions in the valleys of Cogne, Rhêmes and Valsavarenche.King Umberto I, ordered to decorate the hall and gallery with 3612 horns of chamois and ibex. Today it also houses an exhibition, a fascinating historical and private narrative of the presence of the Savoy family in these valleys. WHAT TO SEE The castle can only be viewed by the guided tour. The ground floor introduces the guided tour of the upper floors; some rooms are dedicated to the hunting theme showing the territory, the management methods and the technical specifics of the King’s hunting trips. The first floor, which still retains the furnishings and appearance assumed in the second half of the 19th century, recalls the residential dimension of the castle’s Umbertine phase; the rooms are presented, with some exceptions, with the furniture documented by the 1890 inventory. On the second floor, the layout presents a setting for chronological scans linked to the members of the Savoy dynasty who lived in the castle from the beginning of the twentieth century to the second post-war period. How to get there by public transport: Sarre can be reached from Aosta by bus with the line 7 or the line 29 of the SVAP company, or the Aosta-Courmayeur line of the Arriva company. The Pont d'Aël is an interesting ancient Roman aqueduct and bridge near Aosta. It was built in the first century BC to supply water to a nearby town. It's also one of the oldest surviving examples of a bridge with a segmental arch, which is like a curved shape that supports the weight of the bridge.
