รีวิวจุดถ่ายรูปสไตล์จีน Bopiliao Historic Block 🏮
Today, I would like to invite my friends to take photos at a new check-in point at Bopiliao Historic Block, an outdoor venue that holds exhibitions in Taipei, Taiwan.
On the day we went, there was no exhibition. Bopiliao became a public park for people to come and sit, walk, and chat. It is a hangout place for teenagers and the elderly to relax and unwind.
I think this place is very interesting because the decoration style is retro, ancient Chinese, with red bricks and Chinese red lanterns decorating the entire park. No matter how you take a photo, it will definitely look beautiful. I recommend going early in the morning so that you don't have people in your photos.
Opening/Closing Hours: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM, Closed every Monday

Bopilao Historic Block is historic city block in Taipei featuring traditional 18th century architecture. It was constructed way back during the Qing dynasty. Now repurposed as a cultural and arts hub. I’m recommending this place for people who likes instagrammable photos. Here is the place!

Walking Through Time: A Stroll in Bopiliao Historical Block
Stepping into the Bopiliao Historical Block feels like crossing a threshold into a century-old Taipei. The weathered red brick walls are etched with the marks of time, and the ancient arched doors and wooden window frames quietly tell tales of past prosperity.
In the narrow alleys, the stone-paved roads convey a slight chill underfoot, while sunlight filters through the gaps in the buildings, casting dappled shadows. The well-preserved old shops evoke images of the bustling activity and lively chatter of yesteryears. Small exhibition halls at the street corners display precious old photographs and artifacts, piecing together a complete picture of history.
As you stroll through, it feels as if you can hear the calls of porters and the laughter of children from the past, evoking a sense of nostalgia that makes you pause and savor the moment. As the sun gradually sets, the block is bathed in a golden afterglow, as if time stands still here, leaving a warm memory. Bopiliao is a tranquil corner deep within the city and a corridor of long-standing historical stories.

Bopiliao Street... Taipei.
Bopiliao Historic District is located in the Wanhua District of Taipei City, not far from Longshan Temple. This area played an important role in the early history of Taiwan and was one of the early markets and commercial centers in the region.
The interpretation of the name Bopiliao varies, including processing of tree bark or animal skins.
There are many traditional buildings and historical sites preserved here, including ancient streets, buildings, and shops. These buildings reflect the early architectural styles and lifestyles of Taiwan, attracting many tourists to appreciate them.

Seeing the words 'Bopiliao' in Bopiliao Historical Block might make one's liver tremble, mistaking it for some World War II concentration camp site. In fact, Bopiliao is just the name of the best-preserved Qing dynasty street in this old district.
🖼🖼🖼🖼
As for why it's called Bopiliao, it's hard to trace back. It might be because this place was where tree bark was peeled, or there might have been a factory for processing animal hides, or it could simply be a result of various homophonic evolutions. In any case, it's a street that has nothing to do with being scary.

The whole block is not very large, with a length of only about 300 meters. The buildings are still there, and some exhibitions have been set up. Perhaps because it was still the Chinese New Year holiday, many shops were not open. The surrounding area includes Longshan Temple and some old district markets. It feels like it's not particularly recommended unless one has a special sentiment for Mengjia.

The Bopiliao Historical Block in Taipei exudes a rich cultural atmosphere of the Qing Dynasty
The Bopiliao Historical Block preserves a fairly complete Qing Dynasty street pattern, traditional Qing Dynasty shophouses, facades post the Japanese colonial urban reforms, and the appearance after reconstruction post-liberation. The architectural space bears witness to the development of the Bangka street and is of great significance for the continuity of the urban fabric.
The block also contains a considerable number of historical traces, including designated historical buildings such as the residence of the national scholar Zhang Taiyan at Guangzhou Street No. 123, Yongxing Pavilion Boat Head Shop, Song Xie Xing Rice Shop, Dr. Lü Achang's Residence, Ri Xiang Hotel, Sun Bookbinding, Xiuying Tea Table Shop, Changshouhao Tea Table Shop, the Taoist altar - Weilingtan, and the public bathhouse Fengxiang Bathhouse, etc. Surrounding the area are gathered historic sites such as Longshan Temple and traditional industries like paper offering shops, Chinese medicine shops, herbal shops, and Buddhist supply stores.
Therefore, the Bopiliao Historical Block truly contains a wealth of local culture, making it an ideal local teaching venue.

The community of Bopiliao was firstly formed back in early Qing dynasty. Since then, its history evolves as Taiwan went through different eras.
In 2009, Taipei City government finished the repairing process of Bopiliao Historic Block, and opened it up to the public.
Situated in one of the most prosperous areas, Mengjia, is at 173 Kangding Road, Wanhua District, and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 0900-1800. It is around 300 meters 4 minutes walk from Longshan Temple Met station (Bannan Line).
The arching verandas and red brown brick wall buildings witnessed the development of Mengjia and now have become a cultural and educational landmark.
Visitors can see well-preserved streets and traditional shop homes from the Qing period.
