◆ Izu Oshima and Godzilla
Izu Oshima is an important setting in the Godzilla movie series. In particular, in the 1984 Godzilla movie, the crater of Mt. Mihara on Oshima is depicted as the site of Godzilla's final battle, and the movie ends with Godzilla being dropped into the crater of Mt. Mihara.
And two years later, Mt. Mihara actually erupted, and at that time, a rock in the shape of Godzilla, known as Godzilla Rock, was formed. (2nd photo)
Godzilla statues and related goods are also sold on the island, so if you're a Godzilla fan, be sure to make a pilgrimage!
◆Notes
There are few hotels, so make your reservation early!
The hotels are also priced on the higher side, but they may not be very clean, so don't expect too much.
There are also limited rental cars, so we recommend making reservations early.
The area is not generally accessible on foot, so you'll probably need to rent a car, rent a motorbike, or rent a bicycle.
We recommend reserving a rental car so you can move around even if it rains.
