On this sunny morning, I decided to visit the Central Public Hall located in Nakanoshima, Osaka. This cultural landmark, with over a century of history, is renowned for its magnificent Neo-Renaissance style and always attracts countless visitors. I exited from Yodoyabashi Station on the Midosuji Line and walked towards the Central Public Hall along the bustling streets. The five-minute walk allowed me to feel the urban atmosphere of Osaka, with the surrounding skyscrapers and greenery creating a charming contrast, filling me with anticipation for the upcoming visit. As I approached the Central Public Hall, its majestic exterior stood out against the backdrop of blue water and green trees. Completed in 1918, this building has been preserved and restored over the years and has become the first public hall building in western Japan to be designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Entering the hall, I was amazed by the interior decorations and the sense of history. Inside the hall, I discovered that the exhibition room on the basement level is open to the public for free, showcasing the history and artifacts related to the hall. I leisurely admired various relics here, feeling the deep cultural heritage of the building. The hall is not only a venue for concerts and lectures but also carries many historical events, reminding me of great figures like Einstein and Helen Keller who once gave speeches here. After visiting the Central Public Hall, I strolled along the nearby Nakanoshima Park. This park is an oasis in Osaka, with spacious lawns and beautiful lakes, allowing one to feel the natural atmosphere within the city. Many people were jogging, walking, and families were playing on the grass, creating a lively scene. I found a comfortable bench to sit on, enjoying the breeze on my face, and the surrounding green trees and blooming flowers lifted my spirits. This is a great place to relax and temporarily escape the hustle and bustle of the city. This day's visit to the Central Public Hall not only deepened my understanding of Osaka's history and culture but also allowed me to enjoy a moment of tranquility in Nakanoshima Park. The grandeur of the Central Public Hall and the natural beauty of Nakanoshima Park perfectly intertwined, becoming an unforgettable part of my journey in Osaka. Recommended walking route: Yodoyabashi Station ➡️ Shibakawa Building (lunch or afternoon tea at a cafe or bar) ➡️ Head towards the river ➡️ Walk through Yodoyabashi to Nakanoshima Park ➡️ Nakanoshima Library (afternoon tea at Smorrebrod Kitchen) ➡️ Osaka City Central Public Hall ➡️ Osaka Municipal Museum of Oriental Ceramics ➡️ Return to the Kitahama area (have a coffee by the riverside) ➡️ Buy cakes and souvenirs at Gokan Kitahama Main Store The walking time for this route (excluding sightseeing and dining time) is only about 30 minutes. The attractions are very close to each other and most are designated tangible cultural properties. Although they are all Western-style historical buildings, each has its own unique characteristics, such as the red-brick Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Inca-style Shibakawa Building. This time I stayed in Umeda, Osaka, and found a local hipster spot with few people nearby 🎀 The most important thing is that there is a river view, a shrine and a cafe! 🌼 This place feels like a more residential area, and there are very few people coming here on weekdays! 🏞️ Walking along the river, you will pass by the modern-looking "Osaka Nakanoshima Museum of Art" and see the Dojima River Forum (Dojima) across the river. Crossing the river to the "Fukushima" side, there is a small shrine called "Fukushima Tenmangu" (Kami no Tenjin). ☕️There are also many coffee shops and specialty bakeries nearby ~ such as Grace Man Cafe and Paris-h! On my recent trip to Osaka I was looking for more unique things to do, that are often not at the top of everyone’s list of must-see things. I decided to go further North of the downtown area and discovered Nakanoshima. In middle of the Okawa River is a sandbank piece of land that has many museums. Nakanoshima is a beautiful island in the city where cultural, political and business facilities are concentrated. The three kilometre island is home to some of Osaka’s best museums, restaurants and hotels.
