All Moments About Koganei
Let's enjoy fluffy shaved ice made from natural ice of Yatsugatake in Musashi-Koganei.
I visited a newly opened shaved ice shop on August 7th. The shop is called 'Yatsugatake Natural Ice Shaved Ice Chikori' located in Musashi-Koganei, Tokyo.
The ice used is natural ice from Kuramoto Hachigi in Yatsugatake. Natural ice is made by slowly freezing natural water using only the coldness of winter, resulting in high-purity ice with few impurities.
The fruits added to the shaved ice are also carefully selected. Most of the fruits are directly sourced by the owner from farmers, ensuring they are delicious and complement the shaved ice perfectly.
The shop has a policy of not shaping the ice after shaving it, allowing customers to enjoy the fluffy texture.
I tried mango, strawberry, and peach. Other customers' matcha azuki and Shingen looked delicious too. I plan to try them next time.
With fluffy natural ice and delicious fruits, I feel like I can beat the hot summer.

Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum with its historical buildings
【What it's like】
This park was created to preserve old buildings that are being lost and leave them as cultural assets for future generations. Most of the buildings were moved from other places with their shapes intact.
You can hear from volunteers about how people lived in the past and how things were used.
【Recommended points】
At the Kodakara-yu public bathhouse, you can actually take photos in the bath! If you take photos with a film camera, you can take even more interesting photos.
The building also has many shelves, which reminds you of Ghibli's Kamaji.
【Access】
5 minutes by bus from Musashi-Koganei Station on the JR Chuo Line

Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum
#東京行程
This place is like time-traveling through Japan’s history! The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Museum is an outdoor museum filled with real buildings from different time periods, from samurai-era houses to old-school bathhouses and even vintage shopping streets. It felt like I was inside a movie set! I loved walking around and imagining what life was like back then. Some of the houses even let you go inside, and I saw tatami rooms, old wooden kitchens, and vintage furniture—it really brought history to life. There’s also a super cute retro tram that you can check out! If you love history, photography, or exploring unique places, this museum is a must-visit. Plus, Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki used this place as inspiration for Spirited Away! It’s a bit outside central Tokyo, but totally worth the trip—especially if you want to experience old Japan without leaving the city.
A Place Where Time Stands Still: A Stroll Through the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum
Strolling through the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum feels like walking through a corridor of history. Classic buildings stand quietly, like imprints where time has stopped, each preserving memories of Tokyo's past. The first sight is the traditional wooden houses of merchants, with familiar lattice windows and warm-colored lanterns, evoking the bustling atmosphere of Edo period markets.
Following the path, I entered a rustic residential house, seeing rooms with tatami mats, wooden sliding doors, and a tranquil dry landscape garden in the courtyard, instantly feeling the aesthetic of life from that era. What moved me even more were the buildings that survived the Great Kanto Earthquake, standing proudly despite the hardships, telling tales of the city's resilience and sustainability.
As the sun set, I stood in the middle of the park's street, gazing at the intersection of the old and the new. The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum brings history to life in the most authentic way, leaving an indelible mark on my heart.
Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.
This time I visited the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, which has a sizable area that you can stroll around for half a day. It's a bit far from the city center, but it feels very worthwhile ☺️ (and the admission fee is very cheap too)! Although there was a bit of light rain, the greenery of late spring and early summer was still very beautiful, and when paired with the aged Japanese architecture, it was stunning 🥰! There are also a variety of other styles of buildings in the park, including Japanese and European styles, and the interiors have been restored or preserved to match the scenes of the time, all constructed very delicately and beautifully! Moreover, every building has wheelchair access, there are Chinese guidebooks available, and the staff are very friendly. There are also two places to eat 🍜 (the udon is cheap and delicious), which really makes it convenient and photogenic! 📷💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I am very grateful for the exclusive member customer service privileges from trip.com – this privilege is very convenient and practical!! Whenever I have something unclear, I would ask my exclusive customer service, and they always respond quickly and handle issues well!

[Koganei Shrine/Tokyo] A mortar and archery range in the lush grounds
Koganei Shrine in Koganei City, Tokyo
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃
It is said that the shrine was built in 1205 (Genkyu 2) during the development of Musashino, and was dedicated to the virtue of Sugawara no Michizane.
During the Meiji Restoration, the shrine was renamed from "Tenmangu Shrine" to "Tenmangu Shrine."
It is the guardian shrine of the former Kami- and Shimo-Koganei villages and Koganei Shinden, and in 1870 it was renamed Koganei Shrine after the place name.
The shrine grounds are reached by climbing up a few stone steps.
There is a plum tree and a cow statue in honor of the enshrined deity.
In the back, there is a 3m-tall stone mill stacked in the style of a Fujizuka as a memorial for millstones that had outlived their usefulness.
If you go further in, there is a kyudo field, and if you're lucky, you can actually see people shooting their bows!

[Fujiwara Inari Shrine/Tokyo] Red and white plum trees watch over
Fujiwara Inari Shrine in Koganei City, Tokyo
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃
This shrine is located a little way off the Shin-Koganei Kaido road.
There is a sign for Osawa Shrine, and at the back of the approach is Kamimiya Osawa Shrine. On the left hand side of the approach is Fujiwara Inari Shrine.
A flag for Fujiwara Inari Daimyojin is hanging, and although it is a small shrine, the vermilion torii gate and flag stand out.
On both sides of the main shrine are small red and white plum trees with cute flowers.
To the right of them is the prefab building of Osawa Shrine.

[Kamimiya Osawa Shrine/Tokyo] You can see beautiful bamboo forests
Kamimiya Osawa Shrine in Koganei, Tokyo
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃
Founded during the Tenkei era (938-945)
It was founded by Fujiwara Toki Juji, who is said to be a descendant of Nakatomi Kamatari, who was given the surname Fujiwara and became the ancestor of the Fujiwara clan.
This land above Osawa Pond was a beautiful place with beautiful mountains and clear waters, so it is said that the shrine took the name Osawa and enshrined the ancestor god.
It is a small shrine a little way off the Shin-Koganei Kaido.
As you walk along the refreshing bamboo forest, you will see a torii gate, and just beyond the torii gate is a shrine building.
There is a roof to protect you from the rain when you worship. It is unmanned, but it seems that they sell amulets and other items.
There were two cute bird ornaments (one an owl and the other unknown) at the chozuya, which was soothing.

This is a great day trip from Tokyo and offers a great place to view the cherry trees for Hanmari. The museum is charming with numerous exhibits that were loved from all over Japan to be placed on the grounds here. The gardens are amazing and the staff is attentive and many are fluent in English.
Highly recommended if you are a fan of Japanese architecture.
