2024 Hebi Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Hebi City is located in the northern part of Henan Province. The city has a long history, picturesque scenery, places of historical interest, and unique natural landscape. Zhaoge, the Shang Dynasty capital, and Zhongmu, the capital of Zhao (one of the seven powerful states during the Warring States Period of Chinese history) were both located in Hebi City. There are many famous attractions here, such as the Yunmeng Mountain Scenic Area. With its beautiful scenery, the mountain is known as the “Qingyan Wonderland.” There are several Taoist and Buddhist temples on Dapi Mountain, in the Dapi Mountain Scenic Area in Jun County. Each one is very distinctive.

Hebi Li Family Courtyard (Shangshu Mansion)
Hebi Li Family Courtyard (Shangshu Mansion)
🎫No tickets required
In terms of construction time, it is more than 200 years earlier than the Qiao Family Courtyard in Shanxi. The Li Family Courtyard was selected as the third batch of historical and cultural villages in Henan Province in December 2008. The Li Family Courtyard has two distinctive buildings. One is the luxurious and noble 'Daughter's Building' located in the western courtyard of the courtyard. It is 20 meters high and stands out in the entire building complex. It is said that this was the residence of a precious daughter with a high status in the family back then. According to the family genealogy, a total of 18 kilns of bricks were purchased to build this building. From the carvings on the window lattices to the decorations on the walls, this building is obviously much more exquisite than other buildings. However, due to years of disrepair, an earthquake left a large crack on the wall.
The other is two imposing guard towers located on the east and west sides of the Li Family Courtyard. One of the guard towers is well-preserved, standing over 20 meters high, with a total of 5 floors, 1 underground and 4 above ground. It is the tallest building in the entire courtyard, much higher than the nearby modern 6-story buildings. The guard tower has a complex structure and a tight layout. The ground floor has a movable floor, with a trap hidden several meters deep underneath, specially built to prevent intruders.

👉Lijiazhai Chaotian River
It feels like stepping into a real-life version of the Wizard of Oz! This place is simply a paradise for camping and playing in the water, with lush trees and no worries about being sunburned.
📍Address: Lijiazhai Town, Shihe District, Xinyang City, Henan Province
👉Wujiawan
Wujiawan is located in the southern Taihang Mountains. It has mountains and water, is close by, has low prices, and few tourists. It is a small scenic spot that has not been overly developed and still retains the charm of an original village.
📍Address: At the junction of Lingchuan, Shanxi, and Huixian, Henan
👉Danfen Village
Danfen Village is known as the best summer resort in Henan. It is located in the scenic area, halfway up the mountain, and can be reached from the top of He Longtan in Wanxianshan. Here, mountains and water depend on each other, and the scenery is picturesque.
📍Address: In the hinterland of southern Taihang, Huixian City, Henan Province
👉Jingying Grand Canyon
Named after Jingying Temple, the canyon has gurgling streams. This is an excellent place for free summer hiking, stream tracing, and leisure water play, known as the small Guilin of Henan.
📍Address: Shuangying Line, Xiuwu County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province
👉Tantou Village
For summer water play, the first stop is Tantou Village in Huixian, Xinxiang. The Jianlong Waterfall in Baoquan Scenic Area is right next to it, and during the rainy season, the sound of the waterfall is thunderous.

📍Address: Hebi, Henan Province
Next-door Sangyuan Town
For babies who come to Hebi to play, here are a few tips for visiting Sangyuan Town:
1. Self-driving is recommended, as there is a parking lot in the scenic area.
2. Except for the Qi River Valley scenic area which charges an entrance fee, other places in Sangyuan Town are free (the Qi River Valley rafting is good, suitable for playing when the weather is hot).
3. It is recommended to stroll along the riverside path in the town in the morning, have something to eat at the food town at lunchtime - the food is generally average, so don't set your expectations too high. In the afternoon, you can visit the Bailong Temple scenic area along the river on the other side, where there is a natural stone cave. Those who are slim can try to squeeze through it; it's very cool inside and quite interesting. Following the cave, you can either go up the mountain or continue down the river to Zhifang Village.
4. I personally recommend the Bailong Temple scenic area for its beautiful scenery, good water, and fewer people.
5. If you want to have a barbecue by yourself, consider the river behind the Bailong Temple. It's super quiet, the terrain is open, and you can drive there directly, but it's not easy to find. We also discovered this great spot by chance when we saw other people barbecuing, haha.
6. Hebi is very comfortable, and the people of Hebi are very happy. If you don't know where to take your children during the holidays, consider Sangyuan Town, a great place to take a walk with the kids.
Unlock the magical journey of Jinshan Qi River Cultural Tourism Area
Planting Grass Notes Content: Unlock the magical journey of Jinshan Qi River Cultural Tourism Area
I had long heard of the great reputation of Jinshan Qi River Cultural Tourism Area, an AAAA-level tourist attraction that combines ecology, health preservation, humanities, and science education. It has always been on my mind. Taking advantage of the Qingming Festival holiday, I finally took my family on this magical journey.
Before setting out, I did my homework carefully, afraid of missing any beautiful scenery. Unexpectedly, the place was even further than I imagined, truly a 'thousand miles for the beauty'. However, the scenery along the way was also quite impressive, with golden rapeseed flowers like a sea of gold, refreshing to the soul.
Upon arriving at the scenic area, the first thing that caught my eye was a row of pedal bicycles, a novel sight. We rented a larger one and the whole family sat on it, starting our cycling journey. The scenery along the way was breathtaking, as if we were in a moving painting. Birds sang cheerfully on the branches, the river water was clear to the bottom, and small fish swam freely.
What impressed me the most was the cherry blossom forest. It was the season when cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the trees full of flowers swayed gently in the wind, like pink clouds. The faint scent of flowers was intoxicating. We all stopped to take out our phones and capture this beautiful moment.
Besides the beautiful scenery, there is also a rich cultural heritage here. It is said that this is the hometown of Xu Xian, the birthplace of the story of the White Snake. Luo Guanzhong also spent his later years here in seclusion, writing 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms'. These legends and stories make this land even more mysterious and charming.
Unknowingly, we had cycled a long way. Although tired, the joy and satisfaction in our hearts were indescribable. This trip to Jinshan Qi River has been very rewarding, and it has given me a deeper appreciation of nature's wonders and the profound cultural heritage.
If you also want to take a trip on a whim, why not visit Jinshan Qi River Cultural Tourism Area? The beautiful scenery and culture here will surely make you linger and become the most beautiful content in your heart's Planting Grass Notes!
Do I not have a destiny decreed by heaven?
historical sites and monuments The Ruins of Lutai On a certain day in January 1046 BC, King Wu's allied forces reached the vicinity of Chaoge, and the Shang army turned against their own, forcing King Zhou of Shang to ascend Lutai and self-immolate. Before his self-immolation, King Zhou was still exclaiming, 'Woe is me, do I not have a destiny decreed by heaven?' which translates to 'Isn't my fate already determined by heaven?' He could not believe that King Wu could defeat him, thinking that it was heaven that had abandoned him, leaving him no choice but to climb Lutai and self-immolate.
The Ruins of Lutai are located on the east bank of the Qi River in Qixian, Hebi City, Henan Province. It is now Chaoge Park. Lutai no longer looks as it did in the past, but the Qi River still flows quietly.
The campaign of King Wu against King Zhou is a significant event in Chinese history. Various legends about King Wen of Zhou, King Wu, King Zhou, Jiang Ziya, and Daji are all related to this place. Standing on the land of Chaoge as it was in those days, one can imagine the clashing of metal and the horses of war, and feel the ancient and distant changes of the times.
The welcoming guesthouse hidden in the garden
Visiting Hebi in Henan for a trip, I stayed at the Hebi Welcoming Garden, which is a pretty decent hotel locally. During holidays, the hotel often hosts weddings and various gatherings, filling the entire garden guesthouse with a festive atmosphere.
The hotel covers a large area, surrounded by a vast garden with small bridges over flowing water, flowers and trees, and scattered villas, VIP buildings, and European-style main buildings complement each other.
In the early morning, you can always see guests staying at the hotel exercising along the red paths in the garden. The swaying lotus leaves in the pond, the floating water sprites, the path leading to the distance, and the heartwarming fragrance of osmanthus leave an unforgettable impression. As night falls, the brilliant lights decorate the inside and outside of the hotel even more splendidly.
The hotel's lobby is spacious and bright, and the decoration of each building is unique. Entering the lobby gives a sense of splendor. The decorations in the corridors tell the story of the origin of the city's name. Looking around the entire hotel gives a rich and majestic impression.
The hotel rooms are tidy, warm, and comfortable. The towel-folded little rabbits on the bedside table are very endearing.
In the morning, having breakfast at the hotel, as soon as you enter the restaurant, you find historical books such as Lü's Spring and Autumn Annals, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Classic of Mountains and Seas, Songs of Chu, Chinese Calligraphy, and Book of Songs prominently displayed, reflecting the city's long history and profound cultural heritage, named after the legend that 'immortal cranes perched on the southern mountain cliffs'.
The hotel's meals are quite distinctive. Staple foods like brown sugar rice cake, green tea cookies, sesame balls, egg-fried dumplings, crispy chicken popcorn, siu mai, and various exquisite pastries cater to the different needs of guests from all directions. Hulatang is a Henan specialty, and it tastes stronger than what I had in the capital. The side dishes like trefoil, purple lettuce, and purple cabbage are fresh and tasty. At the sauce station, black pepper honey sauce, sesame roasting sauce, Japanese oil vinegar sauce, and salad dressing are all available.
My stay at the Hebi Garden Hotel was not long, but the overall impression was very good, and along with this beautiful city, it is deeply embedded in the memory.
Where to go on the weekend? Let's head to Hebi
Hebi City, formerly known as Chaoge, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, located in the northern part of Henan Province, at the transition zone from the eastern foothills of the Taihang Mountains to the North China Plain. It covers a total area of 2,182 square kilometers. Hebi City has a warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate, with distinct seasons, abundant sunlight, and relatively large temperature differences.
Hebi City is the setting for the story of 'Fengshen Yanyi' (The Investiture of the Gods). The capital of the Shang dynasty, Chaoge, and the capital of the Zhao state, one of the seven warring states, Zhongmou, were both located in the Hebi urban area. The surnames Lin, Shi, Wei, Kang, and Yin, as well as the Korean surnames Kang and Qin, originated here, making Hebi an important birthplace of surnames for East Asian ethnic groups.
Off-the-Beaten-Path Attraction | Chaoge Old Street
| Chaoge Old Street. 🌈Highlights:
Chaoge, located in Qi County, Hebi, northern Henan Province. Qi County was anciently known as "Mo Yi", where the twenty-second king of the Shang Dynasty, King Wu Ding, first moved to, and then to Beimeng (now Xiaotun, Anyang); King Wu Yi moved the capital back to Mo Yi; when King Di Xin ascended the throne, he renamed "Mo" to "Chaoge" and continued to use Chaoge as the capital. As the imperial capital of the late Shang Dynasty, Chaoge (Qi County) not only preserves a relatively intact ancient city appearance and cultural relics but also has beautiful and moving legends and stories.
The pedestrian street is an imitation of an ancient street, with a style reminiscent of several decades ago. At night, the street is crowded with people, and the alleys on both sides are filled with quaint residences. At the intersection of Chaoge Old Street and Tongji Avenue, there is a tall overpass tower in the center of the roundabout, the iconic building of Chaoge, the Wenchang Pavilion,
From the Yin capital Chaoge to the Zhao capital Zhongmou, Hebi has gathered centuries of royal essence; from the ancient porcelain kilns that shine with the light of dust to the endlessly sung anthems of black gold, Hebi has repeatedly captured the world's attention. This land, which has undergone vicissitudes and changes, not only harbors vitality but also precipitates the historical treasures of the Chinese nation for thousands of years. The cranes still soar in the blue sky, and the Qi River still flows quietly, making Hebi, an ancient yet young city, still shine in the Central Plains.

Relaxing holidays by the Qi River
If you're looking for a place with few people, beautiful scenery, and not too tiring for the May Day holiday, then go to Chaoge Cultural Park. It's located by the Qi River in the Hebi city area, with open views, clear green waters, and quiet forest paths. In short, it meets all my requirements for leisure. Cao Wei Ancient City - A Journey through the Culture of the Three Kingdoms
Departed on the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, avoiding congestion all the way, heading to Xuchang. Arrived in Daming on the evening of the fourth day, which is also part of Handan. It was my first visit to Daming, a stroll around the ancient city of Daming from the Ming and Qing dynasties, where the city gates are well-preserved. By the time I reached the Daming County Catholic Church, it was completely dark, and I captured the church under the stars and moon .
On the fifth day (14th), I passed by the ancient city of Shangqiu, but was scared off by the crowd and did not stop, hurriedly continuing on. Arrived at the Xuchang Guesthouse in the evening, finally got to taste the authentic spicy soup, delicious and not too spicy
On the sixth day (15th), visited the Xuchang Museum, and in the afternoon, the Cao Wei Ancient City, which was super crowded. Didn't enter the Prime Minister's Mansion, walked for a long time and couldn't find a taxi. There really are a lot of people in Henan. Suddenly, we found ourselves at the famous Pangdonglai, sat down at the entrance to rest for a while, watching the bustling crowd, didn't have the courage to go in . Walked a long distance again, finally found a taxi . At the same small restaurant, had the spicy soup again, and also had the food that is clearly a pancake but insists on being called 'mo', the old 'mo' and vegetable 'mo'
On the seventh day (16th), set off for Bozhou, Anhui, to see where Cao Cao worked, and then to his birthplace. Visited Bozhou Guesthouse, Bozhou Museum, Cao Cao Memorial Hall. Cao Cao's greatness needs no description, everyone understands . An outstanding politician, military strategist, literary figure, calligrapher . Cao family tomb cluster - Cao Si Gu Dui, and the beautiful and fragrant wintersweet
On the eighth day (17th), prepared to head back, avoiding congestion in various ways, Hua County - Daokou Ancient Town, under construction; Xun County Ancient City, road closure - caught up with the famous Xun County folk Shehuo . Then it was Hebi, Hebi Guesthouse, Hebi City Museum
On the ninth day (18th), continued to travel through villages and counties, Xian County, Hejian, tried Hejian donkey meat Huoshao for the first time, the Huoshao was large and crispy, like a pocket filled with donkey meat, the taste was superb . Only then did I realize what those in Beijing were, nothing at all . Arrived at Bazhou Mingtang Riyue Lake Hot Spring Resort in the evening, the hot springs were great . Returned to Beijing the next afternoon, ending the journey.
The generous treatment of members by Hampton is praiseworthy
For self-driving trips during the National Day holiday, it is a wise choice to avoid popular cities and attractions! However, the choice of hotels in small and medium-sized cities is obviously limited. For example, in many cities in northern Henan and southern Hebei, there are few chain hotels and no official stores. I chose the Hampton by Hilton in Hebi, which has been open for less than a year, and stayed overnight. The overall feeling is still good, and there is a bit of surprise without expectation!
This Hampton is very close to the Hebi East High-speed Railway Station and is adjacent to the highway exit. There is a Wanda Plaza next to the East Station, which is quite convenient!
The location of this Hampton is very conspicuous. You can see its figure as soon as you get off the highway. The building is tall and there is a grand sign. They gave members drinks and snacks, and reminded that the first round in the room refrigerator is also free. They also said that they will send welcome fruits later. This operation suddenly made me feel good about Hampton, and the entire check-in process was also good!

Natural Tai Chi Diagram Tourist Scenic Area, the pride of China
The Natural Tai Chi Diagram Tourist Scenic Area is located at 114 degrees 10 minutes east longitude and 35 degrees 49 minutes north latitude in the Qibin District of Hebi City, Henan Province, covering an area of 2 million square meters. The Tai Chi diagram covers an area of about 280,000 square meters and is the largest natural Tai Chi diagram discovered in China.
Chinese name: Natural Tai Chi Diagram Tourist Scenic Area
Geographic location: Qibin District, Hebi City, Henan Province, covering an area of 2,000,000 m2.
The natural Tai Chi diagram is backed by the northwest mountains, overlooking the southeast plain, following the mountains and avoiding the wind. It is cool in summer and warm in winter, with beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. It is valuable for its unique landscape (the Yang Fish is a mound surrounded by many stone mountains), the river flows backwards, and there is a popular saying: 'The water flows backwards, the mountain is cut off, if it doesn't hide the noble, it hides the gold bricks.' It is said that King Wen of Zhou once observed this diagram and was deeply inspired, and then he was detained in Youli and performed 'Zhou Yi'.
Relevant experts also infer that this is the birthplace of Tai Chi culture. The scenic area has provincial-level cultural relics protection units such as the Qingyan Jue Thousand Buddha Cave, the Northern Wei Group Buddha Stone Carvings, the Shao Sheng Cliff Inscriptions, the Yuan Dynasty towering ancient cypresses, the Ming Dynasty exquisite stone pagodas, and the Qing Dynasty ancient temple buildings, etc. It is an excellent place for physical fitness, cultivating sentiment, and leisure travel.
