Light Snow and Red Makeup for the Royal Family - Eastern Qing Tombs

On the morning of January 26, 2025, the first light snow of the winter had just stopped. My family suggested visiting the Eastern Qing Tombs to see the red walls and yellow roofs under the light snow, and that's how this set of photos came about. The Eastern Qing Tombs are located 30 km northwest of Zunhua City, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, and 125 km west of downtown Beijing. During the Qing Dynasty, the tomb area covered about 2,500 square kilometers, and today it covers 80 square kilometers (some say 78 square kilometers, with the front circle tomb area covering about 48 square kilometers and the building area covering 71,020 square meters). It is one of the largest, most complete, most regular, and best-preserved ancient imperial tomb complexes in China. Construction of the Eastern Qing Tombs began in the 18th year of the Shunzhi era (1661) and lasted 247 years. The tomb area is 125 km long and 20 km wide. A total of 217 palaces and archways were built, forming 15 large and small tombs (5 imperial tombs, 4 empress tombs, 5 concubine tombs, and 1 princess tomb). The Eastern Qing Tombs are the final resting place of 5 emperors, 15 empresses, 136 concubines, 3 princes, and 2 princesses, totaling 161 people.
