Love at first sight - Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

💞Reasons to Recommend Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is otherworldly. With its towering quartz-sandstone pillars (the inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar), lush greenery, and surreal mists, this park feels like stepping into a dream. It’s perfect for hikers, nature photographers, adventure lovers, and anyone chasing unforgettable views. Overall it’s one of the prettiest places I’ve ever visited 🫶 🗺️ Travel Guide Located in Hunan Province, the park is part of the larger Wulingyuan Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Key attractions include: Avatar Hallelujah Mountain Tianzi Mountain Yuanjiajie Scenic Area Golden Whip Stream Plan at least 3 full days to explore it all — the park is vast and layered with different elevations and trails. We stayed 4 full days and there were plenty to explore. 🍜 Food Recommendations Within and around the park, you’ll find plenty of snack stalls and small eateries offering delicious street-style food -our favourite was: Stuffed Fried Pancakes (馅饼): Crispy on the outside, soft and savory inside — usually filled with minced pork, leeks, or spicy veggies. Perfect for an energy boost during your hike. Grilled Corn (烤玉米): Slightly smoky and sweet, often brushed with chili powder or honey glaze. Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐): A must-try if you're feeling adventurous! Crispy, fermented, and bursting with bold flavor — surprisingly addictive once you get past the smell. Also look for rice noodles and fresh fruit juices at the park entrances and rest areas. 🎫 Tickets Park Entrance (valid for 4 days): ~248 RMB (includes shuttle bus inside park) Extra fees for Bailong Elevator, Tianzi Cable Car, and Yangjiajie Cableway 🚗 Transportation We Fly into Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport, then take a taxi (~40 mins) to Yangjiajie ticket station (West gate) entrance - it’s smaller and not too crowded, also there’s a lot of bed and breakfast hotels around. Inside the park: Use the eco-shuttle buses and cable cars to get around. It’s walkable, but you will definitely need it. We have an amazing host in our hotel and she arranged this part for us. 🕝 Opening Hours Daily: 07:00 AM – 06:00 PM 🏷️ Tips Wear comfortable hiking shoes — you’ll be climbing a lot. Be careful with monkeys 😅 they attract and steal food from you. Avoid national holidays if you can; it gets very crowded. Bring layers — temperatures can shift between elevations.
