Yuncheng Yellow River Iron Ox | Treasure of the Yellow River

|Treasure of the Yellow River. The Yellow River Iron Ox is located outside the west gate of the ancient Puzhou City in Yongji City, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, China. It was cast in the 12th year of the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty (724) and served as the ground anchor for the floating bridge at the Pujin Ferry. In 1989, archaeological excavations began at the Pujin Ferry site, and four iron oxen, four iron men, two iron mountains, four iron piers, seven seven-star iron pillars, and other relics of the Tang Dynasty Pujin Ferry floating bridge were unearthed. There are two iron oxen on each side of the Yellow River, with iron cables tied to the iron oxen and then connected to the iron oxen on the opposite bank, forming an iron cable bridge across the Yellow River. When crossing the river, boats are tied to the iron cables to prevent them from being washed away by the water. Therefore, these four iron oxen are actually cable piles for fixing the iron cables. The iron oxen were cast during the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty and are now housed in the Pujin Ferry Museum. Tickets: 25 Transportation: Drive out of Pujiu Temple and head south along the tourist road for 3 km to reach the ancient Puzhou City site, a 6-minute drive. Take bus No. 2 (Guanque Tower line, every 15 minutes, No. 3 is slightly farther) from Yongji Railway Station to the Iron Ox Museum for 3 yuan, which takes 20 minutes; rent a car for 30 yuan.
