Merapi Museum

This is a must see while see while in Jogja! This is by far the best volcano museum -- no, the best geology museum. It is brilliantly curated, with in depth education on the geology/vulcanology, as well as the history/sociology/anthropology regarding this amazing volcano and comparing it with other volcanoes around the world. The cool thing here is the pretty decent sized model of Merapi right in the center of the museum as you enter. The Museum has interesting artefacts following the volcanic eruption of Mount Merapi as recent as 2010. They also collect the house and everything inside it which has been covered by ash from the eruption of Merapi. Sample of the rocks, and so on.
