Transportation Guide • External Transportation: ◦ Airplane: Fly to Yan’an Nanniwan Airport first, then take the airport shuttle bus to Yan’an city, and transfer to a special bus or taxi to Hukou Waterfall. Taxi takes about 2+ hours and costs around 300-400 RMB. ◦ Train: Arrive at Yan’an Station, then take a bus from Yan’an South Bus Station to Hukou Waterfall. There are many buses, tickets cost about 40-50 RMB, and the trip takes about 2.5 hours; alternatively, take a taxi for 200-300 RMB, also about 2+ hours. ◦ Self-driving: Navigate to “Hukou Waterfall.” It’s about a 2-hour drive from Yan’an with nice scenery along the way, allowing stops to enjoy views. Check road conditions in advance, especially in bad weather. • Internal Transportation: ◦ Sightseeing Bus: The main transport from the park entrance to the waterfall’s core viewing area. Tickets cost 40 RMB per person (round trip), covering about 3 kilometers, saving you time and energy. ◦ Walking: If you have good stamina, you can walk to the viewing area to experience the surroundings up close. Allow enough time; walking one way takes about 30-40 minutes. Ticket Information Hukou Waterfall ticket prices vary by season: peak season (April 1 - October 31) is 100 RMB per person; off-season (November 1 - March 31) is 90 RMB per person. Students and minors aged 6-18 get half-price discounts; seniors over 65, military personnel, and disabled persons with valid ID enter free. The sightseeing bus ticket (40 RMB round trip) is mandatory. If you want to visit the Dragon Cave for a close-up view of the waterfall, you need to buy a separate Dragon Cave ticket for 20 RMB per person. Itinerary • Morning: Upon arrival, take the sightseeing bus directly to the waterfall’s core viewing area. First, visit the main waterfall viewing platform. The breathtaking feeling is unparalleled, with the waterfall’s water pouring right overhead. After exiting the Dragon Cave, hike the Ten-Mile Dragon Trough trail to admire the Yellow River roaring through the canyon and marvel at nature’s craftsmanship. Along the way, you can see geological wonders like unique rock patterns. Accommodation Suggestions • Hukou Town (near the park): Qilinghou Tuyaodong Courtyard is a well-reviewed guesthouse with prices around 80-120 RMB per person. Here you can experience Shaanbei’s traditional cave bed, enjoy bonfire parties at night, and it’s just a 10-minute walk to the park—very convenient. Jin Xinyuan Cave Guesthouse features a courtyard style with floor heating, off-season prices about 150 RMB per night, and offers re-entry discounts, great for those wanting an in-depth visit. • Yichuan County: Hanting Hotel (Hukou Waterfall branch) is an economy chain hotel with standard rooms starting at 200 RMB per night, free parking, suitable for self-driving tourists, about 30 minutes by car from the park; Yichuan Dayu Mountain Villa is a garden-style resort hotel with cave-style suites, an ecological local cuisine restaurant with average spending around 60 RMB per person, ideal for families, with a comfortable and quiet environment. Notes • Safety: The mist around the waterfall makes the ground slippery. Pay close attention to your footing, avoid dangerous areas, and do not climb over railings. Be cautious of your head and feet when visiting the Dragon Cave to prevent collisions and falls. • Weather Changes: Check the weather forecast in advance.
