Liugong Village, Yangshuo, Guangxi.

Liugong Village is located on the bank of the lower reaches of the Lijiang River and belongs to Puyi Township, Yangshuo. It has a history of more than 350 years. In the past, when land transportation was not developed, all kinds of goods could only be transported by the Lijiang River. Therefore, Liugong Village used to be a gathering place for merchants and a distribution center for goods. Now the ancient ferry of Liugong still exists. The prosperity of Liugong Village in the past can only be found on the mottled brick walls of ancient buildings. The houses here have eaves and pavilions, carved beams and painted buildings, and are rich in the legacy of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the Northern Expedition, Mr. Sun Yat-sen led his troops up the river and saw the buildings of Liugong. He moored the boat to watch. He abandoned the boat and landed, and walked up the smooth bluestone steps. Looking up, he could see an antique square tower with three simple characters written on it---Deyue Tower. According to local residents, this place used to be a stage. On New Year's Day, residents on the other side of the river would take a ferry to Liugong to watch the Guangxi Opera, which shows the prosperity of Liugong in the past. Deyue Tower was built in the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. It is divided into three floors. The first floor is an archway about three meters wide and nearly four meters high, which is a passage. Anyone who takes a boat to Liugong must pass through this passage to enter the village. There is another passage. The second floor is built in a closed style. Open the window for ventilation. There are eaves at the four corners. The ancient buildings here follow the traditional Chinese style, with white walls and green tiles, bluestone door sills, and wooden doors and windows, which together form a unique style of Ming and Qing Dynasty houses in northern Guangxi.
