| Qianlong's Palace | Xuzhou Little Jiangnan. Xuzhou Qianlong Palace, also known as Yunlongshan Palace, is located at the northern foot of Yunlong Mountain in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was originally a temporary place for Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty to rest, eat, sleep, and engage in political activities during his southern tour in Xuzhou. It is now under the jurisdiction of Xuzhou Museum and is a rare cultural relic scenic spot in Xuzhou City. The construction of the Xuzhou Qianlong Palace began in the 22nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1757). That year, Emperor Qianlong passed through Xuzhou for the first time during his southern tour. Local officials built this palace for him at the foot of Yunlong Mountain. Initially, the palace was built on a large scale, backed by Tushan Mountain in the north, reaching the foot of Yunlong Mountain in the south, Yuqiao in the east, and present-day Zhongshan South Road in the west. After the palace was built, Emperor Qianlong was very satisfied with it. During his four visits to Xuzhou, he stayed in this palace except for the third time. He also wrote two couplets in his own handwriting: "Famous gardens are beside green waters, wild bamboos reach the blue sky"; "There is a beautiful peak outdoors, and deep ravines in front of the steps." From these descriptions, one can imagine the beautiful and pleasant scenery of the palace at that time. In April of the 27th year of Qianlong's reign (1762), Qianlong passed through Xuzhou on his way back from his third southern tour. There is a poem that says: "The cloud dragon stayed here for two days, and I passed by here four times."
