Xinyi, a small city with a thousand years of history. According to the "Xinyi County Annals," this area was anciently Baiyue territory. During the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Nanhai County, and during the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Duanxi County, Cangwu County. In the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Liangde County and Liangde Commandery were established. In the Sui Dynasty, it was changed to Huaide County. In the first year of Taipingxingguo (976 AD) of the Song Dynasty, to avoid the taboo of Emperor Taizong of Song, Zhao Guangyi, Xinyi County was renamed Xinyi County. "A Brief History of Guangdong" states: "Before the Qin Dynasty, the ancestors of the Nanyue people lived in Guangdong." The ancestors of Xinyi were part of the Nanyue people. In the thirty-fifth year of King Xian of Zhou (334 BC), King Wei of Chu destroyed Yue, and the Yue people scattered throughout the south of the Yangtze River, becoming local rulers with many branches, known as "Baiyue." The ancestors of Xinyi were a branch of the "Baiyue," mainly the Xi'ou Yue people. "Book of the Southern Qi Dynasty, Records of States and Counties" records: Gaozhou Prefecture belongs to "Li and Liao mixed." As the Tang government implemented the policy of "ruling Yue with Yue" (expanding the policy of "ruling Li with Li") and "divide and conquer," the activities of the Li and Liao people in Douzhou gradually disappeared, the Liao areas became Yao areas, and the Yao people flourished. From the early Tang Dynasty to the mid-Ming Dynasty, the main ethnic groups active in Xinyi were the Yao and Zhuang, with few Han immigrants. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Yao and Zhuang either merged with the Han or sinicized themselves. After that, more and more Han people gradually moved into Xinyi and grew in number. Xinyi City is known as the "Jade Capital of the South," the "Hometown of Bamboo Weaving," the "Hometown of Hydropower," the "Hometown of Sanhua Li," the "Hometown of Southern Medicine," and the "Kingdom of Mountain Chickens."
