Ta'er Monastery

Ta'er Monastery, also known as Kumbum Monastery, is located in the Chengzhong District of Huangzhong County, Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province. It was founded in the twelfth year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1379). The monastery is named after the Great Silver Pagoda built in the Golden Tile Monastery to commemorate Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibetan, it is called 'Gönben Xianbalin,' which means 'Maitreya Monastery of the Hundred Thousand Lion's Roars Buddha Statue.' It is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.
