The Bell Tower of Xi'an is located at the intersection of the four main streets within the Ming city wall in the center of Xi'an city. It is the largest and best-preserved bell tower among the existing ones in China. It was built in the 17th year of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1384), originally at the intersection of Guangji Street, facing the Drum Tower. In the 10th year of Wanli of the Ming Dynasty (1582), it was moved to its current location. The Muslim Quarter in Xi'an is a famous food and culture district, referred to as 'Fang Shang' by locals and 'The Muslim Quarter' by tourists. Beiyuanmen Street, where the Muslim Quarter is located, was originally an official district during the Qing Dynasty. In 1992, Beiyuanmen Street was renovated, changing the asphalt roads and brick sidewalks to bluestone pavements, and two-story buildings were constructed on both sides in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In September 1993, it became an antique cultural tourism street. Since this area is a gathering place for Hui people, it is thus named. As one of the representatives of Xi'an's local culture, the Muslim Quarter is a collective name for several streets in the Hui district, including Beiguangji Street, Beiyuanmen, Xiyangshi, Dapiyuan, Huajue Lane, Sajinqiao, and others.
