This hidden gem of a town is the perfect place for a relaxing hike

[Facepalm] I really did procrastinate on updating this—the actual trip was during the 3-day Qingming holiday! [CheerUp] Departing from Hangzhou, it takes less than 3 hours by train to reach Nanping Station/Wuyishan Station, which is a pretty nice distance~ Day 1: Morning departure - Huangbai Village (a cool retreat) - Ancient Chishi Village - Impression Dahongpao Show Huangbai Village: A quaint, lesser-known village. We went mainly to check out the Qingliangdi homestay and take a leisurely walk through the fields and hills. Ancient Chishi Village: A historic old village with stories to tell. We wanted to see the old houses, though most are now dilapidated. The old dock and the few elderly residents still living there add to its charm. Impression Dahongpao: Not my top recommendation! The 360-degree rotating view and the history/legends of Dahongpao are okay, with decent sound and lighting, but the plot transitions are weak. Having seen Impression West Lake and Tianmen Fox Fairy before, this one felt a bit lacking. (You can ask your homestay to help buy tickets—they often offer good prices.) 🍽️ Food: Lunch - Youyi Xiaochao, Dinner - Fuyu Jiaotingli Day 2: Nine-Bend Stream Bamboo Rafting - Wuyishan National Park hike Nine-Bend Rafting: Worth it! Try to book the 8:30 AM slot to avoid the sun (you can choose times on the mini-program, but you’ll need to buy the combo ticket for the scenic bus and bamboo raft. If you want to save money and buy just the raft ticket, you’ll have to purchase it on-site, but it might sell out during peak season). The scenery is stunning—you can ask the boatman for commentary (requires agreement from everyone on the raft, ¥20 per person), or it might get boring. You can also buy fish food at the entrance (¥5 for 5 packs) for kids to feed the fish. Wuyishan Park: After the rafting, stroll along Song Street, visit Zhizhi Temple, and hike Tianyou Peak (we skipped it due to crowds). After descending, start from Yunwo and walk along the stream in reverse, enjoying the peaceful scenery and playing by the water. 🍽️ Food: Breakfast - Ayong Shuiji Shouqiao Bianrou, Lunch - Park snacks + brought our own, Dinner - Kuanzhaili Day 3: Leisurely play by the stream - Baiyun Temple - Train home Slept in, then the kids wanted to collect stones by the Nine-Bend Stream. After a relaxed morning, we headed to Baiyun Temple (you can also take a taxi to the foot of the mountain). The hike up through tea fields is a bit steep, but the view of the Nine-Bend Stream from the temple is breathtaking. Highly recommend bringing your own tea—the temple has a viewing platform with hot water and tea sets for self-service! Non-drivers, leave plenty of time—taxis are scarce here (learned that the hard way). We almost missed our train after failing to get a taxi and had to flag down a local’s car to reach a spot where we could hail one. 🍽️ Food: Breakfast - Zhenweiyuan Jianjiao, Lunch - Roadside Vietnamese pho Stayed both nights at: Buchunzhai Homestay in Sangu Street, conveniently located with easy access to food and transport. The Impression Dahongpao show is within walking distance. Wuyishan is beautiful, the people are kind, and there’s so much to eat and do—we’ll definitely be back!
