Beijing moms, charge! A 2-day, 2-night kid-friendly guide to Wuyi Mountain

Taking the kids from Beijing to Wuyi Mountain for the weekend really opened up a new way to do family trips! A UNESCO World Heritage site, the scenery is stunning with mountains and water, and the air is filled with the scent of tea. Leaving Friday afternoon and back Sunday night means no long leave needed, making it easy and fun to travel with kids~ I used to think the itinerary was too packed, and that kids couldn’t keep up. The southern area has many attractions but is exhausting to tour fully, while the northern area has the mother tree of Da Hong Pao tea that I didn’t want to miss. I also worried about the frequent rain in Wuyi Mountain, but actually, rainy days made the trip with kids even more magical—the mist swirling around the mountains was so fairy-tale-like, and the kids couldn’t stop taking photos! DAY 1⃣️: Relaxed family fun with little surprises everywhere 1. **Baiyun Zen Temple to catch the sea of clouds sunrise**: We agreed with the kids to get up early to watch the sunrise. Once at the mountaintop, the kids were instantly captivated by the sea of clouds, shouting “It looks like cotton candy!” After the sunrise, we had a simple vegetarian meal at the temple. The kids loved the veggies and tofu and even said they wanted to learn from the monks not to waste food. 2. **Nine-bend Creek bamboo raft drifting**: We rushed to catch the bamboo raft before 9 am. The 90-minute ride was perfect for the kids, sitting on the raft watching the creek flow slowly, with the mountains on both sides seeming to move. The boatman told interesting legends, and the kids were completely absorbed, staying quiet and well-behaved the whole time. 3. **Strolling Song Street/Wuyi Palace**: After drifting, we went to Song Street, an ancient street full of charm. We bought the kids small gourd pendants and visited the Wuyi Palace to see cultural relics. I explained Wuyi Mountain’s history in a way the kids could understand, and they listened very attentively. 4. **Easy walk along the Rock Valley Flower Fragrance Trail**: Entering from the north gate, we walked the Rock Valley Flower Fragrance trail. The path was easy, with a creek beside it where the kids could splash around (remember to bring spare shoes). When we reached the mother tree of Da Hong Pao, I told the kids the story of tea leaves, and they said they wanted to bring tea home for their dad. 5. **Impression Da Hong Pao live show**: In the evening, we took the kids to see the live performance. The 360-degree stage was stunning, with lights blending beautifully with the mountains and water. The kids even mimicked the actors’ moves and asked when we could watch it again—super satisfying~ ⚠️ Important reminder! Bamboo raft capacity depends on the water level that day, usually 8 people. When we went, it was 7 people. You must gather enough people to queue. Once full, get a ticket and stand at the front to choose the best raft spot, so the kids can see the scenery better~ If time allows, you can also visit Water Curtain Cave, but it might be dry on sunny days. With kids, you can arrange flexibly. DAY 2⃣️: Light activities + family interaction, super comfortable 1. **Easy climb up Tianyou Peak**: In the morning, we took the kids to climb Tianyou Peak, choosing an easy route. You don’t have to climb too high to see breathtaking views. Standing on the viewing platform, the kids pointed at distant mountains saying they looked like little animals. The family interaction was joyful, and no one felt tired at all. 2. **Adventure at One Line Sky**: Walking through One Line Sky with the kids was very interesting. Sunlight filtered through the narrow stone crevice, and the kids curiously touched the rock walls and raced me to find the exit first. It was full of fun, and the kids didn’t resist walking at all. 3. **Relaxing at Buzhi Chunzhai Tea Room**: In the afternoon, we went to a tea room. The environment was quiet and comfortable. We ordered sweet tea for the kids and Wuyi rock tea for ourselves, enjoyed picture books and took photos, savoring rare slow moments. The kids calmed down and rested well. 4. **Packing up and heading home**: After tea, we slowly packed. The kids reluctantly looked out at the mountains and water, saying they want to come back next time. On the way home, they chatted with me about the fun moments of the trip—so heartwarming~ ⚠️ Wuyi Mountain is actually not big, so don’t worry about going back and forth between north and south with kids; taxis are very convenient. If the kids have good stamina, you can swap the Rock Valley Flower Fragrance trail on Day 1 with the tea room on Day 2—Day 1 in the south, Day 2 in the north—adjust according to the kids’ condition without rushing the itinerary~ Light rain days are highly recommended for kids in the mountains; the misty scenery looks like a painting, and kids find it magical. If it rains heavily, take the kids to make tea or Jian Zhan pottery—hands-on and fun, plus educational, so no time wasted! Accommodation guide: Top luxury wild hotel, super comfortable for kids This time we chose **Wuyi Mountain Chunbo Resort Hotel**, one of Asia’s 100 most beautiful hotels. The check-in is very special—you take a small boat to the hotel. It was the kids’ first time, and they were excited the whole way! The hotel rooms are huge and very family-friendly, with a dedicated children’s play area. Opening the window reveals mountains and water, and in the morning you can be woken by birdsong. Walking around the hotel with kids is very pleasant, and everyone sleeps soundly at night, letting parents relax well~ Must-try family restaurants & experiences - **Restaurants**: Fuyu·Jiaotingli has a great environment, baby chairs, and can prepare light dishes for kids, making mealtime worry-free; Xiao Qi’s shop has a great location and signature dishes that are delicious. The kids always eat a lot, and the flavors suit most tastes. - **Tea-making experience**: Shijia Mingyuan Tea Estate is perfect for kids, even on rainy days. Kids can pick tea leaves and make tea by hand, with staff patiently explaining tea knowledge.
