A City of Charm, Stories of Centuries—Exhibition of Old Photos from Yunhe Garden and Wuxi Museum Collection

I visited the exhibition 'A City of Charm, Stories of Centuries—Exhibition of Old Photos from Yunhe Garden and Wuxi Museum Collection' at the Wuxi Museum, which is a permanent exhibition of the museum. Yunhe Garden was the former residence of Mr. Yang Shijian's grandfather, Yang Weiyun, a famous figure in Jiangnan during the late Qing Dynasty. It is located at No. 5 Changda Lane, Wuxi City. This private garden, showcasing a blend of Chinese and Western styles, is also a microcosm of modern Wuxi garden construction and cultural heritage. In early 2017, Mr. Yang Shijian donated a batch of precious image materials from his home to the Wuxi Museum. The exhibition 'A City of Charm, Stories of Centuries—Exhibition of Old Photos from Yunhe Garden and Wuxi Museum Collection' features more than 140 old photos. In addition to the 102 photos donated by Mr. Yang Shijian, about 40 photos were carefully selected from the old photo collection of the Wuxi Museum. These photos mainly reflect the urban construction of Wuxi since the founding of New China, and also provide a glimpse into the city's development and cultural changes. Despite the passage of a hundred years, the old photos may have faded and yellowed, but the old city scenery in the images still seems within reach, and the people living in the old city remain as vivid as ever.
