Spring brings a bloom of flowers to Liyuan in Wuxi

Liyuan is located on the picturesque banks of Li Lake in Wuxi City and is one of the main attractions of the national key scenic area 'Taihu'. Liyuan covers an area of 123 acres, with about two-fifths of it being water, known for its water scenery. Li Lake, formerly known as Qi Lake or Wuli Lake, is said to have been named after Fan Li, a minister of the State of Yue during the Spring and Autumn period, who boated here with the beauty Xi Shi, hence the lake and the garden are named after him. In the early years of the Republic of China, Yu Xunzhen, a villager from Qingqi Village, built the 'Eight Views of Qingqi' by the lake, known as the 'region of bright mountains and clear waters'. From 1927 to 1936, with the help of Yu, Wang Yuqing and his son, also from the same village, built Liyuan on the existing foundation; in 1930, Wang's relative Chen Meifang built another 'Fishing Villa', also known as 'Match Liyuan', to the west of it. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in 1952, the Liyuan Corridor was expanded and connected to the Fishing Villa; around 1980, the 'Layered Waves and Shadows' new area was further developed. Liyuan is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a key cultural relics protection unit in Jiangsu Province. Wuxi Liyuan attracts countless visitors with its unique scenery and cultural and historical background. Here, one can not only enjoy the beautiful natural scenery but also experience the rich cultural history and unique activities.
