Zhangjiajie - National Forest Park

I am staying in Zhangjiajie, close to Dayong town, so booked a taxi to the site costing approximately 90rmb. I made sure to leave extremely early to beat the crowds and arrived at 7am. It was very easy to buy a ticket and considering the ticket gives you access to the park for 4 days, very cost effective. My ticket cost 224rmb. The ticket includes the shuttle bus journeys but not the cable car trips (65-75rmb), glass elevator (65rmb) or sightseeing train (38rmb). These have to be booked separately at the site. This did bump the cost up quite a bit. The park is huge! I spent 2 days exploring. Everything is beautiful and easy to find if you have a map (our hotel provided us with a map and you can buy them on site). There are numerous highlights to see such as the first bridge, the Avatar shooting site, the glass elevator and Tianzi mountain. There are also lots of hiking trails offered and these are clearly labelled on the map. We hiked up Tianzi mountain, it was a fantastic experience that took about 2 hours. The visit requires a lot of walking so wear sensible shoes. There are plenty of food and drink options on site. There is also lots of shopping opportunities, I bought a beautiful oil painting of the mountains.
