Walking through the gates of Windsor Castle feels like stepping straight into the pages of history. Perched above the River Thames in Berkshire, this is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, and its grandeur is matched only by the rich tapestry of royal heritage it holds. What struck me immediately was how alive the castle feels. This isn’t just a monument — it’s an active royal residence, lovingly maintained and full of life. The moment you step into St George’s Chapel, the craftsmanship, silence, and sense of tradition are utterly humbling. Knowing that monarchs, including Queen Elizabeth II, are laid to rest here adds a deeply personal dimension to the grandeur. The State Apartments are breathtaking, adorned with masterpieces, tapestries, and armory that bring the castle’s opulent history to life. Don’t miss the Changing of the Guard — a ceremonial display that adds flair and formality to your visit. Outside, the castle grounds offer panoramic views of the surrounding town and countryside. Strolling along The Long Walk, especially in the golden light of afternoon, was one of my favorite moments — peaceful, regal, and steeped in tradition. Best Time to Visit: Spring or autumn, for mild weather and fewer crowds.
