【Weinan's few old buildings, turned into a museum, are quite a surprise】 In the old town of Weinan, besides the Drum Tower, there is one more ancient relic, which is the Dacheng Hall of Weinan Confucian Temple. It is said that the Weinan Confucian Temple was built during the Tang Dynasty, supervised by Yu Chi Jingde, and was destroyed in the 'Huazhou Earthquake' in the 34th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1556), which caused damage to most of the cultural relics in Shaanxi. It was rebuilt during the Wanli era and again in the third year of Chongzhen (1630), and now only the Dacheng Hall remains, which is currently the site of the Linwei District Museum. Walking from the old street to this place, I saw the sign of the Linwei District Museum above the facade of a very ordinary shop. Having experienced the Weinan Museum, I expected this place to mainly feature introductory panels without many cultural relics, but it turned out to be quite a surprise. Upon entering the courtyard, the Dacheng Hall is immediately in sight. Although it is the only part remaining, one can still feel its past splendor. The Dacheng Hall faces south with a northward orientation, its roof covered with glazed tube tiles and decorated ridges. The interior is lined with adobe, and the exterior is wrapped with green bricks. The platform is built with bricks, and the edges are pressed with strip stones. According to the 'Weinan County Annals', Tang Dynasty great poets such as Bai Juyi, Jia Dao, Liu Yuxi, and Qian Qi had visited the Weinan Confucian Temple. After all, Weinan, being the 'important pass of Sanqin and the thoroughfare of eight provinces', also had its moments of glory. During the Republic of China period, like most Confucian temples, it became the Weinan County High School, and the former site of the CPC Weinan County Committee was here, which was also one of the revolutionary bases. The fact that the Dacheng Hall has been preserved is probably an important factor. The doors of the Dacheng Hall are tightly closed, and through the cracks, one can see the clutter piled inside, completely lacking the imagined picture introductions. The courtyard behind is filled with hitching posts, and there is also a stele corridor, housing many stone carvings and steles. Unfortunately, they are covered with glass and difficult to photograph. My favorite is a huge evil-warding stone carving, which should be a statue from a large tomb, also without any introduction. To me, this place has no semblance of a museum. Such a large building is left unused; even if some exquisite stone carvings were moved inside and some picture introductions of Linwei District's history were made, it would be better.
