The Maria beauty pageant kicks off at the Venice Carnival

Today, 12 "Marias" dressed in gorgeous traditional 16th-century costumes made their grand appearance in Venice, officially launching one of the most anticipated traditional events of the Venice Carnival—the "Most Beautiful Maria" competition. Riding in luxuriously decorated, glittering gondolas, the young women gracefully sailed along the picturesque Grand Canal.
