Recently, I visited one of the world's favorite backpacking destinations: Vang Vieng, the 'Little Guilin' of Laos. It left me utterly enchanted. In Vang Vieng, Laos, you'll find an unbroken stretch of karst mountains, crystal-clear rivers, and picturesque rural landscapes. The Nam Song River may not be the most majestic river in Laos, but this tributary of the Mekong River has a serene and delicate beauty that lingers in the memory. The gentle karst mountains protect the flat fields nestled within them, and the river's waters have washed out a delightful emerald green. Farmers wearing traditional conical hats lead their water buffaloes on leisurely walks. With the addition of Southeast Asian elements, Vang Vieng feels like a fragrant poetry collection brought to life.
