Valparaiso Naval Base, Chile

The Valparaiso Naval Port is located on the Pacific coast about 130 kilometers west of the capital Santiago. It is Chile's most important naval base and headquarters. Judging from the photos taken, the main ships of the Chilean Navy are retired ships from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and other countries. Historically, the commander of the Chilean Navy when it was first established was Thomas Cochrane from Britain. There are a total of 10 Chilean naval ships in the photo in Figure 1, but the hull numbers of only 6 of them can be seen. HMS Admiral Williams Multipurpose Frigate FF-19 (Flagship) 4900 tons (UK Navy Type 22 Frigate) Acquired by Chilean Navy in 2003 HMS Admiral Condell FF-06 Anti-submarine Frigate 4200 tons, former UK Navy Type 23 Duke class, entered service with the Royal Navy on June 14, 1991, was decommissioned on July 8, 2005 and sold to Chile, and entered service with the Chilean Navy on May 28, 2008. Admiral Viroth FF-18 multi-purpose frigate, 3,320 tons, entered service with the Netherlands Navy on February 26, 1993, was decommissioned in 2006 and sold to Chile, and entered service with the Chilean Navy in April 2007. Abraham van der Hel multi-purpose frigate FF-15 3320 tons, entered service with the Netherlands Navy on December 15, 1993, was decommissioned in 2004 and sold to Chile, and entered service with the Chilean Navy on December 16, 2005. Admiral Cochrane FF-05 (next to 06 in the photo in Figure 1) anti-submarine frigate 4,200 tons, commissioned by the Chilean Navy in 2006 Commander Toro offshore patrol vessel FF-82 1,728-1,810 tons, one of the few naval vessels produced by Chile. The second ship on the right in Figure 1 is the Esmeralda naval training ship, which was built by Spain and transferred to Chile as a debt repayment. It is a steel-hulled four-masted sailing ship with a displacement of 3,754 tons and has visited China many times. Admiral Monte (upper right corner of Figure 1) is an AO-52 oil supply ship with a tonnage of 42,000 tons. It entered service with the U.S. Navy on October 22, 1987. In September 2009, it became the first ship of its class to be decommissioned. It was later donated to Chile and entered service with the Chilean Navy on February 10, 2010. #OverseasTravel #SouthAmericanTourism #SouthAmericanTravel #Chile #Warship #Pacific #navy #chile #valparaíso #chileanNavy
