Wadi Mujib – Jordan’s Adventurous Canyon

Wadi Mujib is a river in Jordan that empties into the Dead Sea below sea level. The western part of the river is the site of the Mujib Biosphere Reserve, which is popular for hikes and canyoneering amid dramatic rock formations. The reserve is located within the deep Wadi Mujib gorge, which enters the Dead Sea at 410 metres below sea level. It extends to the Kerak and Madaba mountains to the north and south. The reserve is regionally and internationally important, particularly for the bird life that it supports. Over 300 species of plants, 10 species of carnivores, and numerous species of permanent and migratory birds have been recorded in the reserve. The reserve consists of mountainous, rocky, and sparsely vegetated desert, with cliffs and gorges cutting through plateaus. Perennial, spring-fed streams flow to the shores of the Dead Sea. #2024wish
