Chouon Waterfall, Selected as One of Japan's Top 100 Water Source Forests

Chouon Waterfall is located in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and is the source of the Kyose River, which flows into the Chikugo River. The waterfall is 27 meters high and 9 meters wide, surrounded by terraced fields and tea gardens. The name 'Chouon' originates from the Edo period when the wife of the Kurume domain lord heard the sound of the waterfall and found it as melodious as a musical performance. In summer, visitors can enjoy swimming in pools fed by the waterfall or savor natural flowing somen noodles. It has been selected by Japan's Forestry Agency as one of the 'Top 100 Water Source Forests.' The name is said to have come from the wife of the 10th lord of the Arima domain, Seiun-in, who, during her travels, heard the sound of the waterfall and found it as melodious as a musical performance. Chouon Waterfall is one of the three famous waterfalls of Kyose, along with Uogaeri Waterfall and Onobuchi Waterfall.
