Murou Ryuketsu Shrine

Murou Ryuketsu Shrine is an ancient shrine dedicated to the water deity and dragon god. The enshrined deity is Takao Kami. It is said that during the Heian period, the imperial court sent envoys to pray for rain, making it known as a rain prayer shrine. Located about 1 km east of Murou Temple along the Murou River, further into the mountains from this ancient shrine lies Myokichijo Ryuketsu, where it is said the dragon god resides near a mountain stream. During the autumn festival, a ritual procession is held from the Tenjin Shrine within Murou Temple to Ryuketsu Shrine, where two lion dancers, one male and one female, perform with sacred staffs and bells.
