Konzenji: History, War, Rebirth

#fallishere Location: Konzen-ji 金前寺 1-4 Kanegasakicho, Tsuruga, Fukui 914-0072, Japan Konzenji Temple, established in 736 during the Nara period, was founded by Taicho Daishi, who received an imperial edict in a dream from Emperor Shomu. The temple's principal image is the Eleven-faced Kannon. Legend states the temple's name, Konzenji, originated from the eleven-faced Kannon emitting golden light. In 811, Kobo Daishi conducted a memorial service, and the temple became an inner temple of Kehi Shrine. During the Nanbokucho Dynasty, it played a role in a decisive battle led by Emperor Go-Daigo's princes. In 1662, the Kannon-do was rebuilt at its current location, later destroyed in a 1945 U.S. Air Force bombing raid.
