So far, among the summer getaway towns in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, my favorite is Tonglu. The locals here are really tight-lipped!

They keep so many fun attractions a secret! I took a weekend trip from Ningbo to Tonglu for two days and one night to relax. The itinerary can be a reference for families like mine who aren’t very mobile. Transportation>> ▪ Self-driving: About 1 hour from Hangzhou. After exiting the highway, it’s 1.7 km to Daqi Mountain Forest Park to start your oxygen journey~ ▪ High-speed rail: About 30 minutes from Hangzhou East to Tonglu Station. Public transportation in Tonglu is very convenient. Day ①: Daqi Mountain → Shishe Village, Maling Ancient Trail, Maoping Village → Check into a guesthouse Day ②: Tianzidi Dreamland ⛰ Attractions>> ✅ Daqi Mountain Forest Park You enter a vast bamboo forest with very clear water. There are many waterfalls in the mountains, known as the "Little Jiuzhaigou." The scenery at Daqi Mountain is beautiful and you can spend half a day experiencing the mountain’s many flavors. The water is crystal clear and blue, reflecting the sky, creating a stunning view. Ticket: 46 RMB ✅ Shishe Village Filming location of the show "Back to Field." Ancient Tea Horse Road, old village, clear streams. Tonglu’s famous snack, Mi Shai Pa, comes from this 400-year-old village with stone-built houses by the Fuchun River. You can listen to the stream and stroll around. It feels very authentic and rustic, like being in a mountain retreat. Admission: Free ✅ Fangyu Kong Capsule Bookstore The most beautiful bookstore in Tonglu, featured in many variety shows. If you have time, come visit, enjoy coffee, and relax! The bookstore upstairs opens for 15 minutes at specific times, so time your visit well. Admission: Free ✅ Maoping Village A village with over 900 years of history, featuring white walls and black tiles, with many ancient sites. There are cafes and restaurants inside the village, offering a changing scenery with every step, like a natural ancient painting. Admission: Free ✅ Tianzidi Dreamland A real-life QQ Speed racing experience, plus the Guinness World Record-certified longest glass drifting slide. ✅ Food Recommendations: ① Pangpo Restaurant An authentic old Tonglu eatery. Two people ate for just over 100 RMB. The dishes are full of wok flavor! The signature dishes are Wo Wonton and Stir-fried Chicken. The Wo Wonton has rich fillings, and the sweet and crispy potato cakes were surprisingly delicious! ② Yaoji Noodle House The stir-fried beef noodle topping is very fragrant, similar to Hangzhou’s Sichuan-style mixed noodles. The three-flavor soup noodles are also good, with chewy noodles—not amazing but quite good. ✅ Accommodation Staying in village guesthouses is a bit more expensive. Since Tonglu’s attractions are quite spread out, it’s recommended to stay near Tonglu Central Square or downtown for easier access to the sights.
